I think you might miss the air suspension and TR but if it is really an offroader and doesn't see much town travel or daily driving I'm sure you can set the suspension up for offroad work if that hasn't been done already.
There will be a debate on petrol vs diesel but that will come down to personal preference so you might need to have your own view on that. If you get it and don't like it, you might find it difficult to move unless the price is really competitive. Range is probably the big factor with the petrol which can be mostly solved with a long range tank.
Service history is important. Not aware of any major systemic problems with the D3's but each individual one tends to have its own nuances
I have 06 v6 SE and love it. I'll probably upgrade mine in 2-3 years on a 2-3 year old D4 diesel.
