Hi TT - I am now about 25,000km onto my second set of these tyres. I got about 60,000km out of the first set. No rubbing on arches and a great all-round tyre. :BigThumb:

The LT245/70-17 size A/T-S has 3-ply sidewalls - something that doesn't seem to be advertised.
Rob,
I might be mistaken but I recall when we did a trip at Mt Walker you have a second set of wheels/tyres for off road work, 17' with STT Coopers ?.
Have you done much off road driving with the Yoko's and if so how did they go.
Tire rack have them for something like $150 /tyre which is pretty good, I recall being quoted around $400/tyre when i was having a look early last year.
Regards,
George
Hi George,
Yes - you're right. I only bought the 17" steel wheels and BFG MT KM2's about a year ago and put them on for rough roads. In December, I just got back from a trip from Sydney-Bourke-(dirt roads flooded)-Broken Hill-Arkaroola-Maree-Oodnadatta-Uluru-Kings Canyon-Alice Springs-Darwin and then returned home via Three Ways-Mt Isa-Longreach-Moree-Grafton-home. The BFG MT's were superb. Not far north of Kings Canyon, I hit an unmarked washout which dented the steel wheel lip - not a mark on the tyre. Maybe a rock just clipped the lip on the rim and I was lucky.
Anyhow back to the question! I did 25,000km on the original wheels/tyres and then bought a second set of 18" wheels for use with AT tyres. I did quite a few trips on the Yokohama Geolandars - Merricumbene FT, Snowy Mountains, Hampton SF, and several other treks. I really like them - and would not even consider switching to another tyre for regular use. I need not have even bothered putting the MT's on our Mt Walker trip last year - the Geolandars on my friend's D3 ate it up - on a later trip there. The LT construction just gives a bit of comfort factor!
Cheers,
Rob
Hi Rob
I have the Cooper 245/70/17 STT's and have been very happy with them on similar roads/tracks to you -Red Centre from Adelaide via Oodnadatta, Dalhousie, Finke, Uluru, Kings Canyon, Mereenie Loop, Alice, Darwin last July and just recently the Victorian High Country. They are abit noisy around town so I put the OEM 19 inch wheels back on. I have heard and read excellent reports on the KM2's though and wondered how you find the noise factor on bitumen. I get the impression they are quieter than the STT's but haven't any personal experience of the KM2's. Also are your KM2's 245/70/17 or 265/70/17 and if the latter have you had any issues with larger size? Thanks, David
More good news re Tire Rack.
I was after a set of 6 tyres and looked into the Pirelli ATR's. None in the country and an unknown wait for more stock. I looked at the Geolander's Jonesy refers to and was quoted about $440 each (in Darwin) and a weeks wait for more than 4.
I followed RickO's advice at the start of this post and went through Tire Rack. Got the 6 tyres delivered to Darwin for $1,500 AUD. They arrived 9 days later, just as the FedEx online tracking predicted.
Thanks for the great advice on what to buy and where to get them!

BGS14!
Which tyres did you get?
Hi David,
yes- that's where I hit the unmarked washout. What I didn't mention was that in addition to denting a steel rim, it also whacked out the suspension computer. A Christmas tree of lights- every known system failed and the beast lowered itself to the bump stops! I put it into park, turned it off and waited a couple of minutes... then turned it on. It went back to normal height and no more error messages! Thank goodness for that!
The KM2's have a bit of noise from about 40km/h to 60km/h and get quieter the faster you go after that. Having driven a D3 with STT's - I can honestly vouch there is no contest in the noise produced - STT's are noisy at any speed!
In addition, I have also been on two trips with STT's failing - once on Merricumbene FT (where my 18" Yoko Geolandars had no issues), and a high speed blowout on the highway before Darwin. The first was a rock knocking a hole in the sidewall. The second was a blown sidewall from heat. I see a trend here.
My KM2's are LT245/70R17 - so legal without engineers certificate.
Cheers,
Rob
Just noticed them myself, after much searching (and BS from tyre merchants) and bought a set from Jax, promptly took my favourite trip to Menindee on the back roads - fantastic! Of course, it's not all back roads, still plenty of highway and these tyres ride so well, they are like passenger tyres, but get them off the bitumen and they feel so stable (I ran 38-42 psi front/rear) I was very impressed. Can't wait to try the rocks and mud...
