I was after availabilty too - why have Pirelli Australia stopped production of these perfect tyres? I'll pay the GST if required but will still save $100s...

I really don't think shiping is included in the $1000 limit mind...and there are 1000s of discussions about this subject.

I do not doubt that Customs can track the purchases as you say but my tyres cam through as separate items without without attracting duty.... p.s. shipping is included in the $1000 threshhold

There was another thread on this a little while back where I thought that as well - however is not the case for private imports - confirmed by Customs.

for those that have had tyres delivered, how accurate was the fed ex tracking date.
My delivery date is 14/2. Trying to determine if I should book this day as a work from home day.

My Pirellis turned up yesterday - just SIX days after ordering !!!

This shows the order of tracking (delivery at the top)

BTW - there was NO note from customs charging GST ($881 tyres + $375 postage) - it may come in the post though?

thank you. the info at the bottom was very useful and now I know what to look for when tracking the shipment.

Mine are currently listed as being in HONOLULU, although interestingly haven't taken the same route as yours coming through Indianapolis and then LA.

hey all, I have been following this thread for a while and have been curious about the transport cost being included in the cost of total value to be taxed so i got this from the customs website:

Goods with a declared or assessed value not exceeding A$1,000

If your goods arrive in Australia by mail and have a declared or assessed value of A$1,000 or less, the goods may be imported free of duty, taxes and Customs and Border Protection charges, unless they are alcohol products or tobacco products. Apart from alcohol and tobacco products those goods will be cleared by Customs and Border Protection and delivered by Australia Post without you doing anything.

I also rang customs just to confirm that shipping is NOT included in the assessment value of the item.
So it'll be all tyres ordered via the US for me from now on. Not just because of the cost but also availability.
    happy travels all
