O, and a note regarding reliability - my service guy at Land Rover says he finds working at a Land Rover dealership to be a fun job compared to his previous service postition at a local BMW dealership. He says if you really want to find out about the cost and concerns of high end car ownership, buy a Beemer, (Bimmer?) and try to keep it on the road and out of the shop.

We have a six lane highway, (QEII highway, it is called), between the two major cities here, and at times, it seemed like a government operated race track, or "toll" road, is perhaps a better description.

The V8 has no problem keeping up with whatever may be in the fast lane and the ease of acceleration between 100 kph and 120 kph is really surprising - not quite motorcycle, but better than most cars and any truck.

I do not know how fast the 3 goes, but I know 130 kph just creeps up and one does not even notice it - and yes, per the previous post, 140 kph has been seen as well and it is no big deal - very stable etc.

I think that is where the 3 ton weight really is a benefit. Also, for being styled like a box, I notice that crosswinds do not seem to be a bother either - must be the weight, as I do find that most strange - or maybe the suspension - some combination of factors, (all wheel drive?), that are not common to normal off road vehicles.
They do cruise and accelerate pretty damn well.....

I believe at 160kph the suspension activates another mode and lowers (from the Australian Owners manual) and another member on this site stated that the D4 is speed limited to 180kph....I'm assuming the D3 would be the same.

    Now that is funny.

I never thought of asking you the same question. That was funny.

Well 121.5 does work in a practical sense; the new stuff, well it will work but waiting has its merits - early adopter vs later.

Actually with the SPOT, as with all this gee wizz new stuff, the longer one waits, the better it gets with time: ease of use improves, increased features appear, the software glitches decrease, (D3 vs D4 for example), and the price drops - (well, not the D4), but with time, this new technology stuff does improve.

    G'day all

Took the fenda camping for the weekend with the boat, just awesome weekend away. Any way, great to come back to heaps of information. Thanks all for taking time to repond.

Took 2 v8 for a drive, both with very different spec and KM. amazed that the higher km one was still smooth as ever.

on both discos the fuel economy was showing 25lts per 100km. I belive this might be due to enthusiatic test drives!!!

    Thanks again

    mike

    Idleing the engine does that.

Do not pay too much attention to the fuel economy readout numbers, particularily on a 3 that has been parked most of the time.

The calculator basically measures fuel flow, then looks at distance driven over some short period of time and then makes a calculation.

I am surprised that the infinity symbol does not come up on the display at times when say stopped in traffic for some time period.

Also right after refueling, the readout will show high fuel consumption but a short distance down the road, it will start to average out. When cruising on an open highway in light traffic, if one clears the display, (pushing in the button on the end of the signal arm stick for a bit), then for a short while, the mileage will show really "nice" numbers - accurate, but also unrealistic.

Mate I use a gme on the boat which can be taken on land with a built in gps. They are worth the extra cause when the poo hits they just come and hover over your exact position. Cheers
