Thanks everyone. Gotta love the forums, nearly always someone's done it before. I like the camera idea, might look into that one.

    Cheers

    Members,

I have a D4 2.7 (acquired 2 weeks ago) to which I have had fitted a single rear wheel carrier. The set up works very well and my rear parking senors appear to be working properly. The sensors appear to have the same sensitivity as they had pre-fitment.

My set up was fitted by some land rover experts and that may make all the difference.

If anybody in northern NSW or southern QLD is interested in the organisation that fitted the set up to my disco, please PM me. It seems a little bit counter productive to disable the rear sensors if there is a work around.

For extra security I have also fitted a rear camera (by different people). This works well with the factory touch screen and I have it set up so that I can also view thru the rear camera in forward gears. There is no extra buttons as it works thru the Land Rover buttons on the premium Land Rover system.

    Rear Sensors

    Hi SWH,

I have had a LR tank and swing arm combination installed on my D4 by a national 4WD accessories dealership - one sensor is disabled/removed but the others function as before the install. I seem to recall these guys had installed quite few on D3's and D4's.

Mitch Hitch, Parking Sensors, Trailer Wiring

Just put on a Mitch Hitch on my RRS - hmmmm looks like a 30min job but turned out to be about 5 hours.

My tow ring was dag free but the nylon bush would still not go in - a bit of grinding and banging managed to get it in after about an hour. Then the inner tapered bush would not go all the way in making the total width of the nylon bush too wide for the tongues on the hitch to go up to it. I used a clamp to get it in as far as I could but the overall bush was still too wide.

I rang the supplier and they indicated that when the hitch is being made sometimes the tongues end up too close when they cool after welding - they have a V shaped tool and a press to spread the to spread the tongues to fit on - unfortunately I don't . I would have thought they would have been made a little wider than required so that they pull up when tightened. I used the grinder to take the paint and some dags off but still too narrow to go on - I trimed the nylon inner bush a bit as well and this gave me a tight fit after bashing the hitch with a large hammer to get it into position for the bolt to go through.

A coat of paint on the hitch and it now looks great and is a nice piece of engineering.

I immediately got the rear parking sensor issue so reading here I decided to put a velcro dot over the inner sensors - no luck. I noticed that the dots and the sensors are the same size as a 10c piece so I stuck one on the dot and the peeping stopped. I will leave it at that for the moment and work out the best option later.

Has any one moved the inner sensors a little further out so they miss the hitch.

Now to do the trailer wiring - the instructions are as clear as mud - shame there are no words to help as I cannot see where half the things are in the pictures. I find the large trailer socket a bit big and of a format not normally use. Can you cut the original item off and use a heavy duty flat socket system commonly used these days.

Back out now to try and suss out the wiring instructions - while I have the full kit which I thought would be just plug in and go it is a lot more complex than expected. While cutting of wires is not required I would have thought a simple plug in is all that would be required.

Hey Garrycol, I know exactly what you went through with the mitch hitch installation as i went through "EXACTLY" the same thing a few months ago. The end result was a rather tersley worded email to Mitchell Bros in regards to the quality control procedure.
In regards to the reversing sensor, mitch bros advise you to rotate the 2 inner sensors about 15 degrees to miss the hitch, not as easy as it sounds either LOL, but i guess that if you have been talking to Mitch bros they would have been told you this already?
I haven't bothered as i am ordering a kaymar bar soon.

    Errrr no.

I have done some measuring and the hitch mounts a couple of mm off the centre of the car and playing around with the 10c pieces I find that it is only the passenger sensor that is picking up the hitch.

I have found that anything to do with Landrover always looks easier than it is, so not trying to rotate them just at the moment.

    Cheers

You can move rotate the sensors 20 degrres or so. Right one antclockwise, left clockwise. You need to pull the bumper skin out to do this so two person job makes it easier; one to hold the skin out, one to adjust the sensors. You will needd to cut a small slot for the tab on the sensor to fit in the new position.

    Realigning Rear Park Sensors

    Hi CaverD3

How do you get the rear sensors out of the rear bumper plastic to rotate them? I managed to just squeeze my hand in behind the plastic, but could not feel how to release the sensor assembly. Does it simply push out, or is there some trick to maybe unclipping it from behind the plastic? Or does the centre push in, and there the outer housing push out? I don't want to lever it out from the outside in case I damage it.

ps I'm sure I saw some detailed instructions and maybe a photo on a post, but can't find it again.

You need to undo the bottom of the bumper skin and pull it out in order to remove the clip which holds the sensor.
Having someone else hold the skin out whilst you work makes it easier.
You need to make a new slot for the sensor holder nib in order for it to slot in when rotated.

SWH, can you give me some details in regards to installing a reverse camera to work through the existing touch screen.

    Thanks
