    D4 ARB Bull Bar

Has anybody had a winch fitted to their D4 Arb bullbar. I had my car booked in for a winch to be fitted, and there seemed to be a problem. There is a fitting kit,due to be available that moves the bar forward and lower. I'm concerned that there will be large gaps.

Yep I have a Magnum (Warn) 9000 in mine. The guys at Virgina ARB had a huge job fitting it - they had it for 3 days! (they also fitted a snorkel, driving lights and a UHF). Apparently they did need to do a lot of modifications and have probably communicated the changes back to HO. From what I can tell in the other posted photos it doesn't appear to be noticably lower than the "non winch installed bars".

I suspect this is one of the "differences" between the ARB bar and the remarkably similar OL version - I'm guessing OL has already made these mods to its bar, which has resulted in it sitting slightly further forward and slightly lower than the ARB one. And they've tried to get ahead of the game by producing the rubber inserts for the gaps that appear below the headlights. It will be interesting to see an ARB bar with this modified kit - but I bet it looks pretty darn familiar... If you have a bo-peep at the pics on the OL thread you'll see what might be the future.

Mickyd - the Virginia ARB guys seem to have done a good job on yours (nor surprising, given how long it took them!) - but I reckon the "factory" kit may well put the bar a fraction lower / further forward. Now I wonder if the OL rubber inserts will fit these modded ARB bars??

As I was getting my roof rack fitted I was discussing with the OL guys the "similarities" of the OL bar and the ARB bar...apparently at some stage ARB went off shore to manufacture (they are Oz built now) and OL got access to the designs and they now get them built in China.

    I had a Warn 9.5XP fitted.
The bar would not go on without surgery. Needed to redrill the bar for the winch, also cut & trimed some of the vehicle's plastic shrouding & non-structural steel to provide clearance.
ARB Newcastle struggled big time during the fitting, following the ARB HQ instructions but not getting anywhere. Video conferenced to HQ to discuss & show problem on vehicle. HQ decided that it would be best to send the bar back.
I said NO. Cut this bit, trim here, and so on, on the D4. As long as it wasn't structural & particularly no impact to radiator support, go for it.
ARB Newcastle did particularly well. 2 blokes for 4hrs, then 3 blokes for another 5hrs!
All trimming very neat, primed & painted automotive black.

    Hi Mickyd

    NICE JOB on your car

Is that a Wind Cheetah roof rack?

I am considering getting one for my D4

What rails did you fit yours on?

    Any drilling holes needed?

Good rack?? WHy this and not the more conventional racks?

    regards

i guessing this means more bolts overall to mount the bar which means it has the chance to move or misalign with a small bump againt a tree or a toyota in the car park

a company as big as arb should offer a new replacement bar after they get the design right

buggered if i would be travelling out west with all this rain and with no winch fitted

    go-disco4,

Yes it's a Wind Cheetah - I got it because i wanted to keep the roof height low, it's light, and it's quiet. Also, I think it's probably the best looking.

No rails, no drilling, fitted by OL. Got the 1.6M to keep it behind my ears and therefore keep the wind noise down.

Very happy with it so far.
