    Bull Bars for D4 HSE

    Hi all,

I've been busy at work and overseas last few months so I haven't had a chance to log into the forum. Got back a week ago and noticed lots of threads about ARB and it's bull bars. Hooray, at last!

So I decided to visit the local ARB shop on Saturday and put in my order. After discussing options and colour matching for about 20 minutes the salesman and I twigged to the smallprint on the ARB D4 bull bar product range - "Not suitable for V8 or HSE".

Okay contacted ARB HQ and asked the obvious. Answer: Bull bar won't fit because of headlight washers and because of the radiator fan. And there ain't no plans to bring out a product for the HSE!

I'm confused. I would have thought the 3 litre diesel in the HSE was the same as the 3 litre diesel in other models - so why the radiator fan issue? The salesman then did some searching and found ECB make an alloy bar and the photo shows it on a V8. But to be honest it makes the vehicle look like a Mac truck in chrome (my opinion) and there doesn't appear to be colour coding options and it costs a fair bit more!

So has anyone out there fitted a bar to a HSE? If so what brand/sort?

    Thanks Ron

    Hi Ron,
Try the Opposite Lock bar. I have had one fitted to my SE.
Not sure about the HSE. Worth a call to them.
    Cheers, Craig

Hi Craig, I just rang them and they're going to get back to me. They were raving about your setup though and said that they were going to put the pictures of the bar fitted to your car up on their revamped website - your car is going to be famous.

By the way, I did the LR factory tour about a month ago. I asked them your question and they said they fitted 19 inch rims to the vehicle to increase vehicle height for rough terrain. Go figure...

    Regards, Ron

Nothing like answering my own questions...

Just got off the phone to OL and they say a bar specifically designed for the D4 HSE with camera and parking sensor provision will be available in the new year, probably late January or early February.

So for HSE it looks like the following options are available:

    ECB - yes
    ARB - never
    Opposite Lock - soon

    your too fast Ron.

I was going to say the hse bar will be different because of the need for cameras and perhaps parking sensors.

In the D3 the arb bar is also only for the diesel variety but then I have seen (and driven) a v8 with the arb bar... and there has also been plenty of debate on here about fitting the bar to the d3 v8.

I guess the old saying goes where there is a will there is a way.

    Thanks Trobbo,

I discussed "modifying" the ARB bar to suit the HSE with the guy from ARB, but he said his boss wouldn't be interested. Understandable of course. I'm sure fitting them to a vehicle that ARB specifically says they won't fit would cause all sorts of legal issues. I once had a car stolen and written off and the insurance company tried all sorts of things to worm out of payment - I can only imagine what the insurance company wold do if a non-standard bar was fitted to a vehicle.

    Hi Ron,
Sounds like my D4 will be up in lights. It will look even better by tomorrow afternoon as I am having it colour coded. They are also filling in some of the holes in the horizontal flat section in front of the grill.
Will post some before and after photos once it is done.

Land Rovers answers to the 19" rims sounds a bit sus.

Re: Your choice of bar. It sounds like a wait until January for the OL bar or go for the ECB which looks like it has just returned from a 'Buck Tooth' convention!

Have to agree with you Craig. I must say though I like the look of yours. They did get a bit tetchy with me though when I mentioned I thought the OL bar looked a bit like the ARB one!
