As the new Landrover models were released in 2009 was the D4 even eligible. I think the models listed are all new (or at least facelighted).

Remember the who har back in 04 or 05 when the D3 won it before it was even released.

Last years winner for the same award was the 3.0Lt D4.
More reason to wonder why it was left out this year??????????

Generally Vehicle of the Year awards for new vehicles are only open to those vehicles that have been introduced in the year up to the test as garrycol said. Having said that I do recall reading a magazine that had changed the rules slightly to include the previous years winner to ensure that 4wd of the year in fact went to the best 4x4 on the market. This may have been overlander though

4x4 award has always been for new models in that year only.

I just read this article....they took a D4 along as a benchmark.....one that they often referred to as very high....the one to beat.

Interesting point, the 18" armed Jeep got a puncture very early too. So maybe tyre quality Vs size again...in other words both OEMs aren't very strong.

The exhaust perplexed me....they are pretty well hidden away, so I suspect it was just a bugger moment, but the writers put it down to a crap weld, which it may have been too.

By no means were they putting down the D4....quite the opposite I thought.

What were they doing to the thing?? I've run through some fairly, er ... rough places and only ever managed to dent the exhausts.

Great bit of footage Gordon,

Deua National Park in Southern NSW.

They stated that they'd bashed them through creeks, rocks, deep washouts etc. And had belly dragged them over errosion control humps.

I almost damaged my exhaust once but it split the bash plate instead but that was more to do with reversing over a stump in long grass. I asked my son if there was anything behind us as the grass was setting the sensors off.....I think he was looking for buses and other traffic....LOL!!!

Considering what they were claiming to do with them, I'm pleasantly surprised they didn't have more issues with the OEMs. They never mentioned the D4 having any traction issues at all.
