    Hi discojools.
I have had my optima in front of the main battery for 14mths now it runs the fridge 24/7. have done a fair bit of off road (low range) in the Kimberleys, and beach trips, tows a 2t KK van, so it has been hot. Battery is still going great. I think everyone "thought" it would be too hot. (Traxide controller best way to go IMHO)

    Cheers Ken
i too have my 2nd battery in front of the main, in a tray i made. ive been watching the temps with a raytec gun and the differance in temps between the main and 2nd is bugger all, im talking 10deg differance.
im running a ED4 55ah exide flooded wet cell that was sitting beside the turbo in my D2 for 2 years. its temps in the D2 were more than the D4.

the tray in its new spot.

and with battery and SS clamp.

im currently running my old SC40.

    cheers phil

    HI All,
Just a thought but, has anyone tried fitting extra batteries in the foot well the 3rd row of seats. I was just measuring the space and i'm positive that you could get a oddyssey pc1400 {65ah} in there on it's side. So you could effectively have 1 main battery and a secondry in the engine bay and 2 in the footwells of the last row of seats. I laid an oddyssy in theere and was still able to fold the floor flat and sit the seat up and still had enough room to slip my feet on either side of the battery. Coupled with Tim's most excellent dual battery system and utilising the anderson plug inside the vehicle, i believe it will work a treat and be removable when not required. Does anyone see a problem with this idea? Would mean a total of over 180AH which would give the average fridge a few days with no need for a start up...
If anyone could throw a few pro's and con's of this idea would be good?
    thanks all

I have been thinking of putting that same footwell space to better use. I was looking at the geltech 31 a/h as they are only 180 odd mm high and should fit. If you needed more juice you could put one in each footwell you may even be able to fit two in each footwell.

On a side note i found the 10L water jerry cans that come with the spouts for $13 in bunnings fit nicely in the footwells. So as a minimum I will be using the footwells for my backup water storage and it is nice and low in the car which is good. You can access them by simply flipping either side seat up.

I have an 80ah AGM on its side in the footwell of the centre 3rd row seat but the seat wont lie down flat. Its only a semi-permanent spot but ...

I'll have to get a couple of those 10L jerries too.

Edit: The 10L jerry doesn't fit with my battery in the centre. I still needed it anyway.

Hi ALL,further to my previous post re: the batteries in the footwells of the 3rd row of seats. Today i bought another pc 1400 battery and wired it all up and it works great, am yet to see a downside.. I guess time will tell!!
Thanks paul for your tip re: the 10ltr water can, it's got me thinking about how to utilise the space under the second row of seats!
