    Hello Ben_Vapid,

Did you drive to the River Bed Car Park at the end of the track?
We were there in July 2014 and enjoyed the Palm Valley walk.
Our D4 was the newest car there at the time.

It would be good to hear about that stuff .... the good, bad and future improvements.

    Cheers,

Haha, yeah I inherited a mates HID's and he had the bracket already made up, it's overkill but it also makes the disco look pretty badarse :P

The biggest problems I had were pretty common, I blew a tyre valve and had to steal the one out of the spare as I forgot to pack some in the toolkit, which meant pulling the fridge out to get to the spare; I need to put the spare on a rear mount, and use that space for an aux tank.

Rear draws then will also help, the back was loaded with stuff and it just made access an issue. Like I said all pretty common.

G'day mate, yup all the way to the bottom, and camped a couple of days, spent my birthday down there, couldn't think of a more magic spot!

Haha my car was the newest car around and the only LR apart from one defender that I saw for 1500km, I was surrounded in a sea of Toyotas and Nissans

Here's my D3 V8 SE. I bought it last December at Trinity used cars in Cairns. I said many years ago after owning a petrol Hilux that I would never own another petrol 4wd. I guess the petrol Hilux used the juice but had no go. I couldn't resist this D3. It had too many extras. I don't think it has done much offroad. It is a bit thirsty but with the dual exhaust system it sounds great. It has a ARB bar, Warn winch, Safari Snorkel, Kaymar rear bar, 18s all round, Alpine Nav and reverse camera, UHF, Centre Cooler, 100l LR Tank, I am slowly getting to know it better as I slowly service most components. I have so far changed engine oil and filter, diffs and air filter. Still to go are TF Case, Main Transmission and all the spark plugs. I am still trying to source the cheapest LG 6 for main transmission and then I will take it to a Auto Transmission specialist and get fluid and filter changed. It has a steel pan. The other option is to take it to my local Ford dealership as I get my F6 serviced there for Tranny service. I am not paying $100 per litre from LR. I am currently looking for a decent roof rack and I will change all the suspension bushes in the near future. I am still considering getting rid of my other car and getting a D4. The wheels are now black too.

    New D3 Owner

    Hi All,
Long time Discovery 2 owner just upgraded.
    Couldn't find a V8 worth buying so ended up with a 2007 D3 4.0 V6 SE

    • Long Range Sub Tank
    • Rear Carrier
    • Snorkel

Just returned 11.5/100 on a round trip to Byron Bay from Sydney. Really pleased with that compared to the old D2 V8.

    Performance

Hate to say it, as I loved my D2 and the RRC before it.
    The D3 4.0 V6 is different class from the D2 V8.
It has more power, similar torque, albeit higher up the RPM's, and it loves to spin to find the power.
The 6 speed box makes a huge difference too I'm sure.
In short the whole package is in a different class as a car to drive on road.
Not been off road yet too far. D2 was excellent, with CDL and TC, I'll be interested how we go with Terrain response instead.

I have never owned a D2 but I have had a Defender and many more 4wds from the land of the rising sun. I love my D3 but be wary of the weight off road. It can be a bit scary on sideways inclines and steep descents. It really does prove that Newton was right about gravity. It's a heavy car. Makes up for it in ride and comfort though.

Why is everyone "wary" of the weight of a D3/4?
    They're only 250kg heavier than a D2 TD5 Auto
