After fitting Frontrunner Slimline II roof rack

Loaded up with bikes on its first family trip to Melrose/Mt Remarkable for the long weekend just gone. Pretty sure can fit one more adult sized bike plus kids bike on the roof for a total of 4 bikes. Very little wind noise, very stable at speed.

Melrose - superb location for a family trip. Mt Remarkable in the background, Bluey Blundstones accommodation in the foreground.

Nice looking D4 - and a good choice in roof racks.

You should check out the annual South Australian Land Rover gathering at Melrose at Easter.

We even drove across from Kalgoorlie for it this year - best Land Rover gathering I've been to by far.
    Cheers .........

No ongoing gremlins, but the starter motor started playing up a few weeks later. Considering how low it's mounted and the official 700mm wading depth, an optimist would conclude it wasn't the water...

    Love my Discovery

I had to go and play in the Discovery after taking an Amarok for a test drive. I am thinking of getting one as I am moving to Brisbane and will have a much larger commute. The V8 is expensive to run. I don't think I can give up the Discovery though. I might have to leave it at my Mum's house near Port Douglas and use it for club trips. Might just have to bite the bullet and get a new Disco.

All three are diesel. Amarok is definitely the cheapest to run (but it needs a long range tank to keep up with the D4 ). D4 is by far the most comfortable of the three - though the Amarok is not bad for a ute. Certainly better than the Toyotas that we've been used to.

If I get one I think I will get one of the lower spec models and add the bits I want. I drove a Canyon which is pretty much the same as the Ultimate. When you consider that it is nearly $70000 it makes the TDV6 look like a bargain.

Highline has pretty much everything I could imagine ever wanting in one of these. Though if you order one, make sure you specify the Xenon headlight upgrade - it costs a fortune to change it over later yourself if you want to (as my young bloke has just discovered).

He bought his at the end of the financial year when they were offering the usual incentives to buy, plus I have a mate whose son is the dealer principle at one of the larger VW dealerships in Perth - Shaun received a rather substantial "dealer's discount" on top of their seasonal offer. Suffice to say that he was very happy with the price. Now he just has to sell the D2 - the proceeds from that will pay for ARB bull bar, lockable roller style tonneau cover, and maybe some different wheels & tyres.
    Cheers .........

Headed up to Jurien Bay on the WA coast last weekend for a little 4 day trip. Good practice run for the family in the caravan and some great beach driving and exploring between Sandy Bay and North Head. Got to test out the Traxide kit and new compressor (thankfully not the new recovery gear), all went great, slowly getting ready to take the plunge into full time life on the road.
