    Trade In

I'm trying to negotiate a price on a 05 HSE Tdv6 (86 klm's) at the moment, and I'm after some informed opinions. The car was originally listed for $55k, but they couldn't sell it; now in the yard for $50k.
I have a 02 D2 Td5 S, it has 188k on the clock, ARB B/Bar, snorkel & side steps, chipped motor and h/d towbar. They offered $3,500 so no way I'm going to trade (as a side note was offered $9k sight unseen ! I didn't even tell them about the accessories by Sydney dealer on a 04 RR HSE Td6 same price and slightly lower Klm's than the D3).
What offer do you think I should put on this D3 without a trade? I would like to have the auto flushed and a ARB b/bar fitted.
Should I get the b/bar later or get in the deal?
I hit 2 roos last year; no damage thanks to the b/bar on the D2.
    Any opinions?
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

The accessories on the D2 won't be worth anything at trade in. Sell it privately.

Is this from an LR dealer? If so, maybe offer $46000. If not, take a few 1000's off. Fair few choices for bull-bar - Opposite Lock, ARB, ECB. Maybe get a quote from each of them separately and then see what the seller will offer.

Make sure it's had ALL the updates applied!

    Cheers,

I agree with Big John, it is rear that a modified vehicle has a Dealer trade in value that is even the same let alone more than a stock standard vehicle in the same condition.

Good luck with getting a deal on the D3, if it is the dark Grey one advertised in Sydney it looks like a nice one.

    cheers,
    Terry

The dealer will have an absolute lowest price he will sell at. So as suggested offer less than the $50K and come up to what you want to your maximum offer. Get the auto done in the deal though.

Would be surprised if the dealer offers you a price on the bullbar at anything less than RRP but you may as well ask (once you know what it will cost you to get it done).

If you want the best money for your D2 then sell it privately.

    $50k for an 05

Jaysus, that's over £30k at current exchange rate, the same car here in the UK would be under £20k

Explains why my ex-work colleague shipped his 07 HSE with him to Melbourne last year, I didn't realise they were worth *quite* that much 2ndhand

What did the dealer pay for the 05 when it was traded?- perhaps somewhere around the $27K to $31K [carsguide valuation]. So perhaps add 20% above the $31 k figure for a profit margin for him which then comes to about the $37K mark and go from there. The worst that can happen is that he'll say no and then you can slowly increase the offer in the 'negotiations' but keeping your max offer way below his $50K. Negotiating a price without a trade in is far easier and simpler when there is no trade in involved. The final sale figure depends on how well you can bargain and it is often surprising just how little they will accept compared to the advertised figure.

And negotiate hard for your accessories plus fitting and any servicing [auto?] into the sale figure as well.

    Good Luck!

All comes down to supply & demand despite what 'the little red book' says.
Also how the vehicle is looked after and if the service intervals have been adhered to.
In the past, I have always fetched way more for my vehicles than what the little red book says, and way more than what the dealer will offer on a trade in.
I have always sold privately and found that people will pay that little bit more for a vehicle in pristine condition.

I was offered $10,000 for my 2001 td5 disco with all the fruit (uhf, bullbar, lr tank, 7 seats, lift kit, diff lock, cd stacker, electric brake controller, etc), but i was buying a d4 brand new, so the trade-in was generous

    I was offered $6000 for my 2001 TD5 D2 as a trade in on D3.

Kept it and ended up selling private for $10,500 & new owner did RWC.

The car had all the gear bar difflocks & had done 260,000 kms but with fastidious service history.

I ended up getting the D3 for $8000.00 under sticker price however they accepted my offer so quickly I often think I may have negotiated better.

It is the last of the d3's with ediff & I am very very happy with it.

    Regards

    Chuck
