Hello everyone, I have a question re the D3, any assistance will be appreciated.
The D3 I have just purchased has a version 10 WHereis DVD in it for the Sat Nav, to be frank it is pretty hopeless outside of town and doesn't show many main country roads let alone dirt roads. The new version V17 comes out next month so I'll wait for that.
I believe there are two models of Sat Nav in the D3, that is based on the fact that the one I have is supposed to be acoording to LR the premium version. One of my questions is, does anyone know if the Whereis DVD's are the right one for the Premium system and its supposed ability to be used off road.
If I remember rightly or wrongly when I first looked at the then new D3 back in 2005 the salesman said there was a premium system that was excellent off road and could be used in any part of Australia's outback to let you know where you were and what tracks there were. That is what I vaguely remember, anyway as this particular premium Sat Nav system can't even name or recognise hardly any country road round here it would seem it isn't as good as it should be.
So is the Whereis the right DVD software for the premium Sat Nav version or is there another map provider whose disc's I should be looking at for country and off road usage?
the references to premium navigation and standard navigation really are refences to whether you have the additional 4x4 info screen which shows you where your wheels are pointing and the extent of wheel travel.
Here are a couple of pics of the premium nav screen showing the 4x4 info.
If you are lucky you may be able to pick up a V.16 disc of ebay cheap shortly if you dont need the absolute latest. I got V.15 for $50 about 9 months ago.
Actually I don't need the latest version, if V16 has country roads in it that will be fine for us because V10 actually doesn't and that is a real pain when you live in the country and your $89 Aldi GPS is more capable of giving directions.
Hi Trobbo, just wondering where you picked up the V15 from or is it available for sale? We've lived with the ol'V10 for 5 years but if the price is right, we'd be interested.HSE with premium nav.
Cheers- hope this is in sequence!?
The disc is $295 and imo an absolute rip off when you can buy a street directory for $50 which costs the manufacturer a bucket load more to produce and sell. Garmin GPS maps I think are expensive and sell for "only" $100
For what it's worth, I bought my new RRS 3.0 in June last year and shortly after had Barbagallo update the GpS software to the (then latest) version of Whereis. Nevertheless, on a recent trip to the Kimberley, I was more than a little miffed to discover that the screen didn't even display the Gibb River Rd - while it's a dirt road, it's THE major beef cattle transport artery for the Kimberley, hardly a negligible country track.
Go figure.
Just to make you feel ok purchased a D4 SE last April and that nav also not very good. When in eastern goldfields it fails to show dirt roads that have been in existence for over 40 years, Know that as they were on maps when I worked the area in 1963/4.
Great to see yourself in no-mans land while still on a raod on the Hema map.
George, even if omitting the Gibb were forgivable, leaving out the new Forrest Highway certainly isn't. That major artery opened two years ago, and still doesn't appear on the Whereis map in my Sport.
And another thing...when the new version is released next year sometime, they'll be asking a whopping $295 for it. A bloody gouge in my opinion, considering I can download marine navigation charts for the whole of Australia for my iPad for 15 bucks from the iTunes store.
It does **** me off a tad - $120,000 for a new car and the maps aren't even up to date.
