    Another one! D4 ordered-worth getting side mouldings?

    Hi guys

    after many months of lurking, I have ordered my D4. White 2.7 with e-diff, rear a/c, xenons, rear camera, extended roof rails.

    I am wondering whether to get the some side mouldings dealer fitted. Seems that modern cars don't have the side mouldings/protection strips these days, perhaps because they make the lines of the car look less clean.

    But i can't help thinking of someone opening a door into your car and dinging the door. Any thoughts?

    Now, how am i going to pass the time until June.....

    My white D4 is due for delivery in May. I did consider the mouldings but that's all. My D3 has them but I don't think they've saved it from any scratches.

    Having said that, I do go to a great deal of trouble to park in places and in such a way as to minimise damage.

    Most damage seems to be caused by the rear doors of other 4x4's being
    opened by children onto your vehicle's side . There's little that can be
    done . Side steps stop sedan front doors only . Crap happens , and that's
    life . It's only a car and in a few years you'll have sold it anyway .

    We had them on our pearl white Subaru, but for some reason whenever something hit the side protection strip since it was so soft the paint would then come off and expose the black rubber undeneath, which looks terrible.

    Also noticed that depending on the type of door being opened into yours, the leading part may not be a nice long edge that hits the strip. Eg the Disco's rear door's leading part is the pointy part of the rear moulding...

    I've always fitted them - I think they reduce the "slab" look a little and do offer some protection from car park incidents and sliding into embankments off-road.

    If you decide to get them they are far cheaper to purchase from a Land Rover parts specialist in the UK or USA than from your dealer. I got three sets (1 for myself and two FOR other Disco 3 owners) from the states in 2008 landed in Aus (only took 5 days) for $178 each. Then recently got a single set from UK for the D4 for $212 landed here. I think your dealer will be charging significantly more.

    Good choice on the D4

    I'm there with you Gordon. The sides need breaking up which the trim does well. You can now also get the trim with a chrome highlight.

    Yes, I got two pairs of mud flaps and the side strips landed for about 1/4 of dealer RRP ($400 vs $1600 if memory serves). Easy DIY fitment with included instructions
