    Unhappy Why did I buy a D3?

    Sorry Guys and Girls,

Need to get this off my chest and some reminders of why I did buy my D3 SE V6 Petrol. After the warranty has run out I have replaced the Compressor for the suspension, the front ball joints as they were shacking in their sockets, replaced the sump of the transmission (warning the oil costs $50+ per litre and the transmission needs seven litres if I remember correctly) due to a leaking bung. Yup couldn't just replace the bung as the thread was not holding the bung in place! The boot release cable came off it's hooks, the bonnet alarm sensor failed, multiple tail lights needing replacement, one middle seat map light just doesn't exist (no clip for the bulb to go into (might be in the roof cavity but it is no good to me there) Now the Fan belt has been changed and the Power steering pump (bearing I think) is being completely replaced, when the part finally gets into the country! been waiting 9 days so far.

And the most annoying one is the Front drivers door just doesn't lock sometimes and can't find out why!! But the alarm and every other door does lock/activate and then I pull on the drivers door to check it is locked and it opens and sets the alarm off!!!!!! Has anyone else heard of or experienced this?

Sure I had a few good times with it; Mates weekend trips away to Double Island, Camping with the family on Teewah Beach. Taking my son Camping and just sleeping in the boot. Getting bogged to the axles and being winched out by a Land Cruiser (obviously not a highlight, but a good learning experience). Most of my driving is cruising up and down the M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast so it has a good easy life and is the best car I have owned for driving long trips.

But I just feel like I have bought bit of a Lemon, at only 4.5 years old and with 85,000k's on it, something keeps going wrong with it. So please any tips because my permagrin just isn't there anymore. Anyone else having continuous non relating issues?

The car is beautiful just the relationship is getting a bit rocky. I should say that I luckily do have an extended Warranty but they have only covered the Compressor and now the Power steering pump, but better than nothing.

Hard to comment jtonline. I am a relatively new owner as well. However, reading through the posts for the past year or so, a lot of the issues you have experienced were more common on the earlier models ( ie. balljoints ) and the later models now have 'improved' versions. Or we bloody well hope so.

It is also difficult to comment on a particular owners experience, without ' being' there. Certainly the LR experience seems to be better if the owner embraces the brand so to speak, and in this regard, having the ability to get involved with the online fixes etc is a definite advantage. ( saves the wallet too )

You have the facility to learn a lot from knowledge of others on this site, even to the best service or repair facilities. Don't give up on it yet.

Not right but sounds on around par with most vehicles, you should see the list of faults with new Toyotas and Nissans.
Personally I would do away with the air suspension.

That does not sound like any new car at all.
It actually sounds more like you had a round of very bad luck.
There is no way that is acceptable and Land Rover should have a lot to answer there.
What about statiatory warranty which is deemed a reasonable time for a part or system failure.
I have bought plenty new cars and currently have a few years old Golf tdi. Touch wood but no trouble, many friends have new cars and if any had as many problems as you describe they be very ****ed.

I totally feel for you, if some of the issues have been mentioned on some forums or not, they should never have been there in a car that cost $70k plus when new.
That is same price as 6 brand new Hyundai thingy's and if any of them showed those faults you be peeved. Not that they would as they are more basic but you get the drift.

I hear you and hope you get it sorted, perhaps if you ever get another its one with no problems which they can be and rightly should be.

There is a relay for the driver's door lock motor in the passenger compartment fuse box (central junction box) that hopefully is failing. Otherwise the fault is likely to be with the locking motor in the door, but perhaps with the connector for the door. Superlocking the vehicle uses a different lock motor so would provide security until the normal locking motor is working again.

In my experience, the dealer servicing your D3 makes a HUGE difference to how you perceive your vehicle.

I would be changing service dealerships. In addition, as it is just out of warranty, a lot of those problems should be dealt with by LR as "good will".

I once had a bad run with my D3 - probably off the road more than any other in Australia. Once I changed dealerships - the few problems I later had were dealt the first time and never reoccurred.

This is where LR Australia are shooting themselves in the foot, in my opinion... they shut down a lot of dealers in a lot of cities - limiting options for getting service/repairs completed by a competent operator. That really kills enthusiasm for the marque. I recall comments of problems in Adelaide, Darwin, Canberra and Brisbane.

Anyhow, don't write it off as a lemon - get LR to fix it properly. I'm sure others will chime in here about the difference between statutory warranty and express warranty. Goods and services bought before 1 January 2011

The air suspension has been and is the best part of the car. Thanks guys for all the responses. I do really like the car, just after having seven different cars (most from new) I have never had this many problems with all of those combined. Will be talking to the Dealer/servicer when I pick the car up finally on Friday about getting a full service report then writing a letter to Land Rover.

Thanks for the posts love the site!
