    Waiting for D4 to arrive after purcahse through broker

    A newbie (and oldie!!) here

    Have ordered a D4 2.7 TDV6 (with e-diff and bi-xenons plus front sensors)
    Thanks to comments on forum I went with the 2.7. with above options.

    Vehicle won't arrive until May (!!!)

    I used a car broker - cerianly saved me lots of "dealer hassle" and I'm quite happy with the deal.

    the first "big trip" will be across to Perth (with lots of side excursions) followed by the Northern Flinders (where I had a lot of tyre trouble with a Subaru Outback) .. so.. should I think about changing to better tyres for taht trip?

    I am considering using a broker also for a D4 purchase.

    1 What sort of $ did you reckon you saved?
    2 What broker did you use.

    I have tried a broker before for a small Jap car. The broker was many $s more than what the dealer could do in that case but I wonder what they are like for the higher end of the market.

    I trialled a broker who was recomended through my professional association(ie he has paid to advertise in the journal). He couldn't do any better than i could myself and in the end i ended up getting the car significantly cheaper because the dealer underquoted for my spec and then agreed to honour the price. Years ago i used one for a Volvo and he was a bit cheaper; i thik they are more useful for cars that have big volumes. At the moment there are fairly significant wait lists for D4's, so there is no incentive for the dealer to significantly cut costs.

    The best deal is the deal you are happy with at the end. Brokers charge for their services & are not necessarily the cheapest as their fee goes on top. The dealer pays for their fee & is costed into the deal. If you dont have time to negotiate, then this may be the best option for you. Most fees are around the $500 mark, so this might be worthwile for some people. A larger company I know of will get the dealers price, then get your price you will buy at & charge the dealer the difference. I have seen a fee of about $4000. And they say they work for you!! Ha! I felt like ringing a current affair myself & this is a company endorsed by a national motoring organisation!! I wonder if they knew this they would still agree to this. Don't get fooled into thinking they will get it at a 'fleet' price, unless you qualify for the manufactures fleet criteria, you wont get fleet price.

    I have got a broker to get a price for quite a few cars in the past and used them only once for my Subaru Outback. However they have got within $500 of my best quotes in the past (and I like to think I can drive a hard bargain) and if nothing else I found them useful for a couple of comparative prices to see if my bargaining was within ballpark.

    With my D4, they couldn't get the price I got. However with this broker they just tell you up front they can't match it.

    Sometimes the broker has some previous sales/quotes history, which can also be useful. They also know whether there are any factory incentives being offered to dealers at the time.

    If they don't charge you, what's the harm in waiting a day or so more whilst they get some prices for you?

    Firstly welcome!

    Secondly, no idea about the broker but others seem to giving thoughts on that.

    Thirdly, do you know what tyres are coming as OEM?

    Once you know, you will get lots of opinions about what is good or bad, a debate/discussion the is well covered in numerous threads on the forum.

    You could also consider sourcing factory spec 17 inch rims as I think these can be fitted to the D4 2.7. Again there is a long discussions about the merits of 17inch rims V;s 18 inch etc.

    If you can make the decision early you may want to spec the change prior to delivery as it will probably be cheaper than post delivery.

    For what it is worth I have the Continental Cross Contact A/T in OEM size of 255/60 18 on D3 and have found them to be a good all round tyre. Solid on road and good off road, a bit of road noise verse the original road oriented tryes but not really an issue.

    Tried using a broker for the D4 but they couldn't get near the deal I got with Austral.
