    I didn't bother with a kit on my 2005.

I opened the throttle body and removed the butterfly, then re-inserted the shaft that the butterfly is on. That way the system doesn't know anything's wrong (and neither do most LR techs).

I then crimped off the ends of the EGR pipes where they entered the throttle body.

No plates or pipe removal necessary.

The hardest thing was getting the butterfly valve shaft out.

None of this will stop eventual failure of the valves as they tend to corrode. I think the difference between the 205 and post 2007 is that the pre 2007 models threw up a MIL but there was not necessarily a corresponding limiting by the EMS. But I could be wrong.

I can't fathom why there would be any EMS changes, as the valves are only opened on idle to quieten the diesel rattle (by delaying ignition in the reduced oxygen environment) and on light throttle cruising to reduce emisisons, as documented in the WSM. Its not as though they are opened whilst the engine is working hard.

Well it can. But it's random apparently. Maybe a cascade causes it, I don't know. But some have had to replace EGR after blanking; although most haven't had a problem.

What I can't fathom is why LR put EGR valves into vehicles that are prone to corrosion1

    Thanks in advance.

    EGR blanking

Discofever....... Fitting the blanks is a substantial amount of work and should only be contemplated if you are a competent home mechanic. There is many things that can go wrong and the pipework can easily be damaged replacing everything after blanking.

A far easy alternate is to remove your ECU and send it away to both be remapped and have the EGR closure software installed (The software ensures the EGRs never open again and won't produce a fault code).

Benefit is better engine power and torque thanks to the remap and cleaner engine by having those useless EGRs permanently closed!

Works a treat on my D4 and I have had no issues since having the upgrade close to 2 years ago!

Hey Catmatt, liking the sound of your solution and wondering where you sent your ECU to and approximately how much the re-mapping cost?
    thanks

Anywhere in Victoria to get this done?

I have a bunch of error codes related to the EGR and assuming I need new valves... but reading this wondering if anyone out there can do the blanking. I live in regional Vic (Bendigo area) but happy to travel to Melbourne etc if someone can do the job. I am female and no clue on anything mechanical just FYI lol
