			Pods - roof/dash

I have a good UHF radio, Icom 400 pro, which can be recalibrated for the new channel spacings. As such, I don't want to get rid of it.

Now, I want to fit it to my D4 but there's just no room anywhere to do it. I've been searching with my good friend, Google, but have not found a roof or dash pod/console that will do the job.

I contacted one of the local makers of the things, and they were happy to make one... but..... they would want my car for a few days to a week to do so, and I can't afford to be without the car, let alone have to drive to Sydney and back twice to get the thing.

So. Anybody been able to find one anywhere? I could just use the IC 41s as the radio I guess when the bullbar is fitted in a few weeks time... I'll just run the cable into the cabin, and using the appropriate adapter connect it to the hand held as needed. Being an Icom, it's a true 5w output handheld and I've had it run for 3 days on the high power setting before with battery life left.

Hmm.. talking myself out of getting a roor/dash pod here!

I put in an IC440 for this exact reason. All you can see of the install is the RJ45 lead hanging out in the centre console. I keep the head in the glove box when not being used.

issue with the 440 is ICOM have not released a software/firmware upgrade to make it compatible with the new channel spacings. YET...... I'd hazard a guess that they did the upgrade for the 400/40/41 series as the EPROM/VNRAM chips are the same, while the 440 is an 'upgrade' and will take time.

Happily though, the mob that solde me the 400 will swap it for a 440 as long as I pay them to do the install. A bargain really as I had a HUGE discount on the 400 unit! Wll see how it goes.

Wait for your bar work & put Haerial on that.
BTW I have a GME with the hidden radio & mike controls, very cool, unit sits under the steering column.
