Just to let you know I fixed it the lock yesterday without too much trouble in the end. I had to be a little forceful with getting the panel out - not nice waiting for the crack - but it popped eventually with no breakages.
Getting my hand in to release the cable was an effort but once done it was all easy enough.
The right angle alloy 'hook' had snapped as predicted but I just got a spare piece of picture frame cable out the toolbox, cut a 3 inch stip and hooked that into the acctuator and clamped that onto the old cable using a clamp that only cost $3 !
Very chuffed at the end and had a corona to celebrate
Well done - at least you were able to find an open cable clamp that was small enough. That was my problem as I needed something that was open so I could get it over the existing still OK factory cable. Small closed round cable clamps that are to be squeezed shut, I could find, but small and open, no.
Also it sounds like you did not break anything major.
