    D3 Windscreen Wiper Slap ?

Hi Guys - Have a D3 which develops an annoying hard slap with the windscreen wipers at certain times.

It seems to usually occur in heavier rain (but can hapen at any time).

I have a theory (probably incorrect) that it may have something to do with 'flicking' snow off the screen where this would be a problem ?

Had it looked at during second service about 18months back, but is happening again.

Any suggestions on problem or an appropriate fix ? - Thanks !

    Hi TT,
It will be either one of two things or maybe even both,
The wiper blades are made with silicon & tend to go hard/brittle quite quickly & when the blade swaps direction it cause the blade to slap against the screen-solution new blades.
The other is the attack angle of the blade against the w/screen-solution
you can adjust this by twisting the wiper arm marginally with an adjustable wrench on the arm just below the blade connection, you may have to have a few goes to get it right.
    Cheers

I am pretty sure LR redesigned the wiper blades. The newer model don't have the problem. That's what fixed mine.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Seem to recall some more detailed adjustment was required with the wiper reach settings (or something like that?) last time.

All the same, will try the ideas posted and let you know if it helped.

    Thanks !

Mine was slapping really noticably at speeds over about 80kph. I swapped the blades left for right and it stopped. I have since changed them for Tridons but it has been a bit dry lately.

May be completely unrelated, but I've just had a new windscreen in my RRS today and the chap fitting it commented on the wiper mechanism being 'loose' on the drivers side.

On inspection / fiddlage, we found that the bolts were done up tight, but the lower linkage bar had serious play in it directly beneath the spindle. It looks like the 2 are linked by a fixed alloy tube that's a crimped / pushfit onto the mechanism. On the drivers side of mine it's loose in the pushfit, passengers side is still tight. It does however allow a degree of movement on the drivers side spindle and consequently the arm & blade.

Unfortunately to see this means removing the trim panel at the base of the screen, which on the RRS means also removing the side pillar trims (and in my case the RAI bolts). I'm not sure what's involved to view it on the D3, but te movement can be felt in the spindle.

Like I say, not sure if this os of any help or related, just an observation I made a couple of hours ago !

    Cheers
    Mike
