I've just had our D4 3.0 serviced at a popular LandRover repair centre here in Melbourne. All is great except the Service Required message still appears on the MFD.
They attempted to clear the message with their AutoLogic system, but I still see the message when starting the engine.
Does anyone have a special method of clearing this message?? I also have a generic OBDII interface that may assist in clearing a code.
I will take it back to get it resolved, but it would be a good thing to know.

D4 3.0 SE
I had the same "oil message still required" on a previous oil change of my 2005 LR3. The dealer story was that sometimes the T4 reset does not hold - well maybe, but at the next oil change, they had it sorted out.
Myself, I like when the dealer puts one of those clear self adhering oil change stickers up in the top corner of the inside of the windscreen - date and mileage - that I understand.
Also, my understanding was that with later years of LR3, one could self set the oil change reminder, and I assumed the same for the D4? Wrong?![]()
The above got me to reading my Owners Handbook again, and of course, I am more puzzled than educated.
I note that the official designation of what I call Oil Change Required is what in my book, Land Rover calls SERVICE INTERVAL INDICATOR and is a read out in the rectangular Message Centre display located under the fuel and temperature gauges, round shaped display.
The instructions with regard to the Service Interval Indicator say many things, none of which display on my 3, but I do know that when I go over some magic setting, that I start to get a negative days countdown, hence something is happening, but certainly not a calendar, or mileage until service message, per the book instructions. It was this message display I was referring to in my above post that got reset oddly, (or something), and hence I just ignored it and the negative count down numbers were disappeared after the following oil change. I actually think that they had just reset it wrong or forgot to reset it but ....
I also recall however after another oil change, that what I call the MIL light, illuminated. Land Rover calls this the "Check Engine - Amber", warning light located in the Tachometer display. To my surprise, I was able to extinguish that indicator light with my ScanGauge II, and have not seen the MIL light since. The MIL light in the Tach display apparently illuminates when it thinks something is wrong with the emissions system. There is another similar looking engine shaped indicator, but with an exclamation mark within, called the "EMS fault- Amber", located in the Message Centre and when it illuminates, there is something amiss with the Engine Management System.
I guess I was starting to wonder if the referenced Service Required message referred to the Check Engine - Amber light, and not an Oil Change?
I also noticed something else for the first time. On page 113 under "Audible Warnings" regarding "Starter Key Reminder", it says "The starter key reminder can be enabled or disabled by a Land Rover retailer." My dealer says NO, and has proved this to his satisfaction that the chime cannot be turned off, by billing me for trying. I wondered if anyone has been able to get their key in ignition warning chime turned off? I seem to recall discussion re this in the past, and the answer was no.
BByer,
The Key in ignition chime cant be turned off by a dealer, if the vehicles specification is designated to have this "chime" then it cannot be turned off.
BUT..
I have heard that if you put the key into the ignition & turn it to position 2, then inset the seat belt buckle into the buckle holder 10 times in 10 seconds from memory it can turn it off, Use the search section it has been talkd about prior.
Also for a lot of you D3/D4 owners the Owners Manual is a world wide publication designated for various parts of the world, some of the info in it does not apply to again various parts of the world.
Cheers![]()
That is the procedure that I used to disable my seat belt alarm. I would love to find a procedure to kill the key in ignition when door open alarm. My brothers new Hilux has the same gongs and he stopped the seat belt gong the same way as the D3/RRS but had to go into the steering column and unplug some wires to do the ignition gonger - I assume something similar will work in the D3/D4/RRS - the functions that the ignition switch/steering columns control are similar.

I will do some more searching on the various boards including some domestic Ford forums re the key in ignition turn off. I have the seat belt chime turned off via the above referenced procedure but not the red seat belt light in the Tach, but that is OK as I do use my seatbelt near always.
I always regarded the technique as a Ford procedure; interesting that Toyota appears to have adopted it as well but maybe GM operates the same way now re seat belts as Toyota tends to copy GM a few years later on.
I thought about cutting a wire somewhere to the ignition key, (did that in my 92 Roadmaster), but in searching wiring diagrams I could not find any single conductor that looked like it carried the signal to the chime. I then assumed that probably the signal is some Can-bus digital thing so who knows what cutting a wire would also cut off - probably the starter. Actually I think I determined that the key in ignition signal triggered other warnings such as a door not completely closed and probably lots of other items, hence, I had best leave be.
I will however continue the quest for a special procedure, and yes, I have noticed that the Hand Book makes reference to lots of items and procedures that are just not there. The trick is figure out which ones - such as my not self folding exterior mirrors.
I have the switch to look at with the little "rotate both mirrors inwards" symbol, but that is it. If I am typical, I also know why we in North America are not allowed to have the mirror function. I had a Renault Scenic awhile back and one morning in Milan, I forgot to unfold the mirrors as I departed a parking stall. (Looked over my shoulder, that sort of thing). Anyway, every Italian on the road was immediately honking at me.
I think perhaps it was a combo of the red taxes not paid plates, and the folded mirrors - they just knew I was a North American too dumb to be allowed on the roads - and yes, I did stay off the Auto routes.
Well maybe you should have not been a cheapskate and bought a higher spec vehicle.
I had the same problem with my RRS and spent a lot of time trying to get the mirrors to fold until I started to realise that they were not fitted despite the handbook - then I realised that the handbook covers all features of all RRS models and was not specific to my spec.
Very annoying.
