    Canvas Roofrack Bag

The FAQ section lists that a 2100x1200 canvas roof bag will fit into the expedition rack of a D3/D4. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I was going to order a custom 1800x1100 from southern cross tents based on my measurements.

1200 is their standard size, so would be easier if a 1200 wide bag would fit.

    Thanks, Chris

    Hi

Have a look at the Rhino Rack bags at the following site. They have one that seems to be the right size for you.

Excellent to see someone reads the FAQ. I wrote that entry based on the fact that two bags of that size I tried fitted.

I would have a good think about what the primary purpose of the bag is for before committing to one large bag. They are a pain to pack and unload, and would be even more so with the lack of floor supports on the Expedition rack.

I take your point Admiral. I have been through all the options for setting up the D4 for travelling with three boys aged 7,11,12 without a trailer. There are many compromises travelling light, and I need to take full advantage of the space on the expedition rack.

On the roof I will have tents, bedding, some clothes, chairs, gas bottle and fishing gear.

My first solution was to get a custom roof bag for half of the rack longways, 1800x500. After seeing the Southern Cross roof bags that sell through ARB at the Sydney camping show, I got to a point where all my gear could go into a canvas bag that fills the rack. When we travel with surfboards they can strap onto the top.

I will put a floor into the rack to assist with packing and storage.

Our style of camping is to stay put for up to a week then travel a couple of overnighters before stopping for up to a week again, so we are not putting gear up and down each day.

    All good. Cheers. CHris

A one stop unpack makes a huge difference. Doing it everyday wears very thin very quickly.

Just letting you know that I purchased the 1800x1200 canvas roof bag from Southern Cross tents through ARB, It sits on the expedition roof rack with a 9mm plywood floor to help store things easier.

Having just toured QLD for the last 6 weeks, it is a fantastic product and I was able to fit all tents, bedding, gas bottles, clothes, tables and chairs for a family of five easily in.

Much easier than boxes and bags all tied down with straps.

The size fits well even though rack is 1100ish wide.

$400 odd bucks very well spent.

    Highly recommended.

    Cheers

    Chris
