Thread: Which Diagnostics Unit is best for a D3

Question Which Diagnostics Unit is best for a D3

Just wondering if anyone could recommend which daignostic unit is better for a 2005 Disco 3 Petrol?

I have read very little useful info on the other diag section and was hoping that a fellow Disco owner might have used a certain brand that works.

I like to travel all over the countryside including out west and would feel a little more secure having a device that will reset codes if needed until getting back to a repair agent.

    Hawkeye/faultmate/launch x431 ???

And where can they be purchased in Aus

    Thanks

    Hi

I have the faultmate FCR2, its a great little unit, shows fault codes, AND gives a text readout of the problem.
Then allows you to reset faults.

    Recommended..

If you've been a forum member a while, Colin will give you a 10% discount and because you live in Aus, you don't have the pay the VAT ( gst ) which saves a further 20%.

In hindsight if i'd had more money i would have liked the full on unit MCV 2 or something, which allows config of the D3 systems and software upgrades.

Still, happy with my little FCR2 for our little bush trips.

    Cheers

    Hi
There are a few phone apps now that will read and clear fault codes.
Don't know how good they are, you use a WiFi or bluetooth in the OBD socket.

Remmember the LR system is coded differently to others so they may not work with D3/4, RRS FFRR.

    Faultmate MSV2

    Hi there,
I have the Faultmate MSV2, great unit with excellent support. You can buy on line. The technical support forum is something to behold. You can download upgrades and if you do run into strife they help you sort "it" whatever "it" is out.
You can use the Faultmate as a stand alone unit or you can use it through a laptop quite easily. The company is based out of Cyprus, don't let that put you off.

Another Faultmate user. Its perfect for reading fault codes and resets. Remember, it only works on the first vehicle it is "linked" to.

I also am a Faultmate user, still haven't used it to anywhere near its' full capacity but love the unit. I have it as a backup should any problems surface during our remote trips.

So are saying a $1000 plus system only works on 1 car ?... so if you get a later model or different D3 its worthless?

    Surely not...

    Hi Ean,
The cheapest licence that you can get with the Faultmate is for one vehicle at a time.

If you want to either switch to another vehicle or sell the Faultmate, the licence can be transferred to the new vehicle.

    HTH,
    Peter
