    08 Sport Turbo problem

    Hi all,
hopefully this is not a repeat... I have an 08 TDV8 RR Sport. About 4 months ago, I blew a turbo hose, and LRA replaced both under warranty. 10 days after the 3 year warranty expired, I experienced an engine failure light and "engine system fault" message from the management system. The dealer informed me that one of the turbos is cactused and will cost about 8K to replace. LRA initially refused to fix it under warranty, despite the service agent telling me it was a "known problem". After complaining to LRA, I have now been told they will cover 50% of the parts and labour. I have to say, that with 60000km on the clock, I think this is pretty poor.
Does anyone have similar experience or advice on challenging this decision? I would have thought the statutory warranty should force them to pay...
    appreciate any insights or advice.
    cheers,
    Paul.

Surely they should have picked that up at the last service ? I'd want to see a copy of the service report incase they have marked that as passed or similar ?

At only 60k kms, and 10 days out of warranty, I would be asking LRA for thier offer in writing.

Once you have it, go to your state Consumer Affairs department, and take it up with them.

Any product must be fit for purpose, and it is not a reasonable expectation that a turbo would fail 10 days out of warranty. If you had 100k kms, and 12 out of warranty, you might have a problem, but as it stands, LRA should come to the party.

Thanks Loanrangie...that's a good point...I will check that - it was only serviced about a month before. They are telling me about 8K to fix, but I priced replacement turbos today and they are Left hand 2500 and for right hand 3100 - genuine imports, and I am told through someone at work that it should be about 4-8 hours work - so at 140 per hour and say 8 hours - we should only be looking at about $4200 plus maybe an oil change and filters, so max $5000....
methinks perhaps a rip-off in the making... I am planning to ask for a fully itemised fixed price quote so I can compare and then negotiate....
    appreciate the feedback,
    cheers,
    Paul.

Paul, blown turbo hose could cause turbo to overspeed due to pressure loss. Would probably cook the bearings, worst case impeler destuction. I would be making the case that the blown hose caused the problem and should have been checked when hoses were replaced.

The really scary bit is that ours is out of warranty by 2 weeks.

    Cheers Greg

thanks Greg - that was my thought about the hose - LRA's initial refusal was because I chose not to accept the extended warranty that was offered....
