D3 TDV6 Engine Oil
Just a quick question from a Defender owner, what engine oil are you using in your TDV6 crankcase? My son wants to start doing his own oil changes but the oil spec thing is a little confusing. I've been told Castrol Edge 5w-30 for 2005/6 models, is this correct? Any help would be great

Hi Allan,
Yes the recommended oil for the 2.7tdv6 is 5-30 according to the book. It's actually written in the owners manual. It dosen't state fully synthetic but I guess we all know by know the fully syn oils are the way to go. From my own research I have found that any 5-XX oil will comply. I personally use a fully syn 5-50. When it comes to brand the only thing I have been able to accertain from the research that I have done is that there is little difference in quality, however if you google 5- 30 oil sae there are test results showing different brands and how well they have done under various applications.
happy spannering

I've got a TDV6 2006 model as well and the 5w-30 is the engine oil I use.
I use the Castrol or Valvoline brand. The engine runs the same using either brand. I seriously cannot feel or hear any difference.

Castrol Edge 5W30 is my recommendation. Buy it in bulk when Supercarp have a sale on and save a heap.
Cheers,
Rob
