    Another Park Brake Issue

    We're traveling around outback Queensland (quite a lot of gravel/dirt roads) and my park brake light keeps flashing.

    Message centre says something like like 'park brake is off, pull to activate'. When I stop and apply the brake and then release it, all is well again. More dusty roads causes the alarm again.

    Problem isn't causing me any issues, other than concern as to what it is.

    Dust in the drum??

    Why would a dust problem "want you to activate" the EPB .... That's usually the default message after reconnecting the battery,
    and when the EPB wasn't activated before doing so............
    I don't think there's anything to be gained by stopping and using the EPB .
    7mm in Tewantin last night ...... no dust here today. ;=)

    Yeah, I don't quite understand if it is a suggestion or an alarm. I never use the EPB anyways, I normally leave her in Park.

    It has done it about 4 times now, all times whilst driving on dirt roads with plenty of dust.

    Stopping and applying the EPB and then disengaging it stops the 'silent' alarm. I was pretty nervous the first time, just incase it was gonna have a hernia or something, as we were in the sticks a bit.

    Bit of an odd one, but I'm sure someone somewhere has had this little old chestnut.

    Perhaps there's a loose electrical connection somewhere and the bumps rather than dust is the cause.

    I have had the same problem on the road out to Arltunga with severe corrugations causing the park brake to error. It was as if the actuator was releasing all the tension on the brake cables and needed to be pulled on and let off to release itself. A bit annoying but it seemed to right itself until a couple of monts later when the actuator needed to be replaced. The adjustment of the park brake shoes is supposed to be done at every service. I would bet that the stealer has never done mine.
