D4 SE Mirrors & Corner Lights

I am still getting to know the systems on my 3 week old SE D4. According to the 2011 price list, "3.0 TDV6 SE Additional Features" includes "Automatic light-sensing, self-levelling Bi-Xenon headlamps with corner lamps". I understand corner lamps to be lamps that only come on only when cornering. I actuallly removed the grille and popped a headlight assembly out to have a look. There appears to be a silver dome with an angled cutaway at the outside bottom of the light unit but it is very hard to determine whether the silvered dome is a lamp or just a dummy. Any one one about this?

Also, somwhere in the manual, there is reference to mirrors that dip when you engage reverse. Mine don't seem to do this, although they do fold up when I lock the doors. Should they reverese dip?

    Cheers

    Al

The cornering lamps were supposedly a feature of my MY10 SE but they were confined to adaptive light assemblies - the ones that swivel as the vehicle turns.

I haven't noticed my mirrors dipping in reverse.

Yes we miss out on cornering lamps and they are just dummy silver domes. Had a look at the cornering lamps on my dad's RRS and they contain proper globes, not silver domes.

Don't think the mirrors dip. What I want to know is if there is a way to disable the mirrors folding in automatically everytime you lock the doors...

    Hi Al,

Not too sure about the cornering lamps myself. I think they may only be fitted to vehicles with adaptive headlights although from what you describe they may be in your headlight assembly. If you take the covers off the back you should be able to tell as if they're there you'll have a globe for them.

As to the dipping mirrors. If they fold then they can dip. It's only the passenger mirror too. This is another of those many options that needs to be configured. I've lost track these days as I know some things can be configured via the touchscreen now, that were once only capable of being programmed by the stealers (or someone with a Faultmate ). If it's not a config option via the touchscreen then it should be able to be turned on via Testbook/Autologic/Faultmate.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Iain

The silver dome is where the globe would be so no need to look further.

    Hi NauticAl,

I have a D4 HSE MY2011. The "cornering lamps" are chromed plastic domes as you describe. On my car you can select / deselect the mirror dip option in the vehicle setup menu.

    Regards Trif.

    Hi Trif

I had a play with the setup menu last night and my SE does not have any options about mirror dipping that come up in the vehicles settings menu. I will ask about it at the first service. The HSE probably has more options programmed into the vehicle management system.

    Cheers

It is an option set from the vehicle setup menu accessed from the steering wheel. At least it is on MY11 models. Maybe earlier model don't have this option because I have seen this question asked a few time before.

Next time you are at the dealer ask them to turn OFF this function, it is not an owner setting unfortunately.

At least you can do this on the Discovery range as it is Not possible on the Range Rovers

The chrome caps as Graeme has described are covers & therefore the vehicle does have cornering lights, only available with "Adaptive" lighting.

The mirror dip is an owner setting in the menu via the rhs steering wheel switch pack.

    Cheers

Yeah it's confusing as there is a different standard build for the SE, across the MY range.

There are definately things on my MY10 SE that were dropped on MY11....so the same may be true the other way round for different components/systems...
