    D4 Long black ergonomics

I can only assume that the person who designed the centre console in the D4 was born without forearms, doesn't drink take-away coffee, doesn't drive and has never looked inside a D3!

Here's my dodgy coffee drinking methodology:

    1) Pull into Macca's or BP Wild Bean and find a park away from the great unwashed and their car doors.
    2) Get coffee, making sure the lid is on tight.
    3) Return to car, place coffee in passenger side cup holder (Driver's side holder is too close).
    4) Enter highway, accelerate to cruising speed.
    5) Keeping eyes on the road, push elbow back, grab top of the cup with finger tips taking care not to (eyes on the road!) dislodge the lid, lift up the cup, place cup on thigh (eyes on the road!), slide hand down to the side of the cup, bring to mouth, drink, burn tongue, etc.
    6) Put the cup back by reversing this procedure....keeping eyes on the bloody road for god's sake!
    7) Think of excuse to use at this morning's meeting to explain the coffee ring on slacks.

I have tried the alternative right hand under left arm approach but found this method even harder.

Yes, I'm 6'3" with arms like an Orangutan. No, I do not have fingers at my elbow joints.

The D3 with it's cup holders placed forward of the gear lever is sooo much better for coffee drinking.

    What's the solution?

I do the right arm under the left arm trick.
Have you tried the drivers door holder?
Obviously if the wife was with you, it would be her job

    As tracker said, drink beer.

Why take the lid off? Usually there is a nice sipping hole in it to save most of the grief

Don't drink it while your driving, it's a car not a coffee lounge

    Style sells better than function.

I think the problem is with the market place. It seems that style sells; function does not.

I have often thought that the the D4 seats and door panels look better than the D3, (unless you are in the bush), but the centre console is all wrong now. The terrain switch location in the D3 makes more sense and allowed for functional placement of the cup holders.

But then again, I would have left the D3 name on the rear as well - a new engine does not make a new vehicle - well I guess it does.

All things considered, given the above, a straw does make sense - now that is practical and so is below, but not much market appeal.
