Hi WhiteD3, know your problem, that stuff is a pain in the butt and gets everywhere.

It’s called Mastic and it is actually very easy to get off.

Use a CLEAN rag with some Mineral Turps on it and you can clean the Mastic off any surface, leather, plastic, paint, and neither the Mastic or the turps will mark anything.

I second the mineral turps. Works a treat. And don't get me started on those stupid metal door clips. Even with due care it took longer retrieving those than the actual auxillary battery install.

Thanks guys. I thought of using mineral turps but I'm a bit concerned about what it'll do the plastics and rubber?

Hi WhiteD3, I’ve used mineral turps many, many times and it has no effect when used on paint, rubber, plastic and most importantly, it will not effect leather.

As posted above, make sure the rag you use is clean because if there is any contaminates on the rag, the turps will allow them to be transferred to what ever surface you are cleaning.

A word of warning, do not attempt to use methylated spirits because metho will mark some plastic and some paint surfaces.

BTW, turps is good for removing tar from vehicles.

Prepsol isnt too bad either if you have any floating around.
