    Fitting a Safari Snorkel to the D3 V6 Petrol

    Hi all, after a long absence from AULRO, I am back. The absence is a looooong story, perhaps for the stories thread one day.
    The time has come to make a decision with my beloved D3, the lease is coming to an end, and I sadly can’t afford to replace her with a D4, so am considering kitting her out (she has only done 57 000km) and keeping her for another four years.
    The mods I am considering are a Kaymar rear bar with wheel carrier, long range tank (VERY desirable on the petrol) and snorkel.
    The snorkel is where my first question in a long time comes in. ARB in Artarmon say that there is not one available for the petrol model, to my knowledge they are just bolt ons to the outside of the vehicle. Is there some internal plumbing I am forgetting about? Also has anyone out there fitted a snorkel to the V6 Petrol?
    Last, are there any alternatives? To my knowledge there are only the Safari snorkel and the Land Rover one.

    Hi DiscoSaffa, I have a D3 V8 and was also told that the Safari snorkel only fits the TDV6 due to the location of the airfilter - until I spoke to Bruce Davis who fitted the Safari for me. It works - as hown on this photo from a trip to Cape Yourk last month. Your other option is to fit the standard Lad Rover 'raised air intake'. As the name suggests this isn't a proper snorkel i that the 'internal plumbing isn't sealed - but again Bruce can install and seal it should you want to go that route.

    Thanks for that. I really don't want to go the route of the LR Raised air intake, aside form the fact that it isn't a snorkel, I just don't like the look of em.

    I contacted ARB again yesterday, and am still waiting for a response.

    Forgive my ignorance, but who is Bruce Davis and how do I get in touch with him?

    Hi DS - It's Bruce Davis Performace Landys www.davisperformance.com - he's north west of Sydney and specialises in Land Rovers. He also fitted the LLAMS height adjusting mod which can be recommended especially if you want to fit oversize tyres.

    Hi Disco Saffa,

    LR RAI is probably best option. Use the external part only. The existing internal piping from the grill to the filter is sealed and creates a snorkel once the RAI is attached and sealed. The piping delivered with the RAI has a perforated elbow which is why it is not classed a snorkel. Safari's snorkel will only fit a diesel, apparently.

    Have been looking long and hard at this same option for mine. Long discussions at Austral in Brissie and Google image searches to get the information and confirm what they have been telling me. Received a quote the other day $1,500 fitted. Hope this helps.

    I ordered my own LRAI for my D3 V8 from the UK. Cost was around 480GBP delivered. Much less than Austral wanted ($1100 AUD) supply only.
    Fitting looks very simple.

    Yep - fitting of the RAI is very simple - you do need a rivnut setting tool of course - total job takes about 20 minutes.

    I was told by one 4x4 after market "specialist" that the reason for no snorkel for the V6 was it plays havoc with the air/fuel mixture. Sounds rubbish to me but ...
    Sounds like I'm going to look at a snorkel as mine has the same kays on the clock as Discosaffa's thanks for the info guys.
