Getting into the settings menu on D3

Can anyone explain how to get into the user settings on a D3. Just purchased an 05 TDv6 and I'm going throught the user manual. I want to change the time that the 'follow me home' light stay on for. Apparently you can do this through the settings menu.

The manual says you can enter this by having the start key at any position and then press the i button on the headlight stalk. Well I can;t get this to work. The manual also says the car needs to be stationary..... but does it need to be running? either way i still can't get it to work.

One more thing that the manual says is that the display should be on the blank screen. Well I'm not sure what this means either.

    Can anyone help?

I assume you have radio controls on the steering wheel???? If so the following is the routine.

Put the ignition switch to on (lights on dash) - then using the i button on the stalk scroll through the trip meter functions ie av fuel consumption, distance to go etc until you come to settings. The screen will say settings and say something like "to enter >" where the arrows are the radio sideway arrows on the steering wheel that are used to change stations etc

Press the right arrow and you enter the settings menu with the display in the instrument panel showing where you are - you press the right hand steering wheel arrow and you will go through the menu eg Trip distance units, fuel units etc - eventually you come to Headlamp Off Delay and you will have various options - something like 30s, 60s, 120s and 240s. Using the up and down volume button on the steering wheel you scroll through these options - selecting what you want - PRESS i on the stalk and all is saved.

If you don't have radio controls on your steering wheel then I am afraid you are on your own. I hope that this is helpful.

Whilst my car does have radio sterring controls which work, I was told by the previous owner that he had them put in himself. ie after he had the car for a while. The controls seem to do what they are supposed to but perhaps since the original car did not come out with the sterring wheel controls the functionality was never there.

I wonder if the dealer can enable it? Hmmm interesting.

If you follow the instructions to get into settings I would have thought that through its own sign language it would point you in the direction of what to do - maybe you need to move the same controls but on the radio (just tried it on mine but they only control the radio).

I guess what you need is for someone to come along with a car that does not have steering controls and explain how they do it (if indeed you can) - but if it is your book for a car without steering controls the the instructions should work.

When I tried pressing the equivalent buttons on the radio it simply changes the track of the cd. The thing is though I can't even get to screen that says settings.

You're right about asking someone who has the standard radio with no radio controls. Anyone with a basic system out there? Did all SE models come out with the standard radio? Mine is an MY06.
