Total Loss of Coolant

I just my one of those replaced not that long ago. I just had a small weep from it.
$30 part, 3hrs work to fit it! plus coolant.
They are of plastic and are not serviceable, yes they are in two parts sort of plastic welded together!

Part #4 it is.

yep that is the part. Lucky I looked actually had car packed ready to take off to the flinders for a couple of days and spotted it the night befor leaving, fixed in a hour in the morn and gone. Yes the flinders rangers are terrific at the moment green and lots of wild flowers out.

PS Mine was only one hour as I have EGR blanks on so no pipe work to remove

Thanks Rich ,much better layout! of all the various coolant hoses , Jeez ,some 17 different hoses !!!!!!!!!! Clearly shows the hoses down to the Fuel cooler , no:11,probably where Normthe1's leak is.
Rich, are any/all of the Australian models fitted with the Fuel Burning Heater?
Where did you get that page from , as my elcheapo ebay special workshop manual is only some USA version for 2005 USA models, and is lucky to mention the TDV6 ,but is choko with V8 stuff !!!!LHD as well

Mine is the same I'm sure the file is called:
Land_Rover_Discovery3_05_FSM
Someone else could probably fill us in on the FBH, I doubt it due to our climate though.

There it was under "303-03C Engine Cooling "
Even went one better , it has 4 layouts for Engine cooling
Automatic or manual , with or without FBH , most illuminating !!!
The elcheapo manual aint that bad afterall !!!
Never seen a Aussie version fitted with FBH , but you never know whats out there.

I wonder if you have to take the body off to change some of them?

This really reinforces my view that D3s are not to be owned once they are over say 10 years old.
I know it doesn't mean much to you "rich guys" but the long term reliability must be suspect with that many hoses alone.

What ya going to buy in ten years time, if your not "rich" then a push bike ? because all cars have a lot of hoses these days ( maybe not 17 thou ) Regular maintanance is the key to any long term life of a car. If you dont buy a car because of faults you can find you wouldnt own one.

Turned out to be the bakelite (plastic???) thermostat housing.

Very similar in that its a $100 part that took 3 hours labour as half the inlet manifold had to come off apparently.

Anyway, no more leaks...

Just had the multi hose housing replaced in the TDV6,apparently it's made of 2 pieces that are welded together. It is this weld that generally goes according to the mechanic.

They haver done a few over the years however LRA don't seem to hold any stck here. They have always had to get shipped in from OS.

Maybe I am wrong but it seems to me that for the most part, hoses do not fail any longer, instead the pieces they attach to blow up, leak, or plug.

It seems that rather than replacing hoses, one is replacing housings, fittings, adaptors, connectors, coolers, rads, cores, pipes, and whatever else the hoses attach to, but as to the hoses, not.
