    Total Loss of Coolant

    G'day all,

My D3 has dropped all coolant in 24 hours and I have finally noticed the red stain on the driveway. Its not gushing or anything but I refilled it yesterday morning and this morning checked it again and its all gone.

I took it to a mechanic mate of mine (not LR specialist) and he reckons he can see coolant leaking from a couple of lines going into/out of a "cooler" down the bottom drivers side of the engine, just behind and inside the drivers side tyre.

I can't find any info on what this could be, any ideas???

don't drive it with that leak

    Hi Norm

Don't drive it, if the leak is that bad, as you will over heat the motor!
Find a mechanic, that knows that model Land Rover, to locate the problem and repair it.

    Cheers Arthur

    Thanks for the replies guys,

I am a fair way from a dealer or independant so I want to at least sort of know what I am looking at before I make the trip.

I set the car up on extended, filled the resorvois and got underneath to see where it was leaking. All I can see is that the water is coming from a drain hole in the protective plating just to the rear of where the front suspension trailing arm connects to the chassis. Obviously, it is something up behind the bash plate.

Like I said, I have a friendly mechanic who I trust enough to have a look, but can anyone help me out with what is behind that bash plate? 400HP, is the EGR cooler you are talking about behind that?

    Cheers,

    Norm

Sardine can thing is the fuel cooler.
EGR cooler is the most likely culpret for a leaking joint/line going to/from it,

Interesting , CaverD3, this is what me manual says .
    Fuel Cooler
Two fuel coolers are fitted to the vehicle. One is located in the 'vee' of the engine block, and has a coolant system
connection to aid heat transfer. The second cooler is located in the fuel return line and is a fuel to air cooler. For additional

    information, refer to
Fuel Tank and Lines (310-01C Fuel Tank and Lines - 2.7L Diesel
As usual the particular reference point (310-01C Fuel tank and lines ) doesnt come up in the Manual !!
Might be able to get at it through Topix ?
Do you have a picture of this Sardine can looking thing ?

I was talking about the second one on the lfuel lines close to the fuel filter. Looks like a sardine can.

I knew I remembered it from somewhere.

The thermostate housing shown is that made of some sort of plastic? and is mounted directlly under the Y junction for the inlet ait ( air flow meter I think) . Mine was leaking and replaced it only last Friday. Seemed to get worse farly quickly.
