    Wheel nuts ?

    Hi all,
I've just read this post on Disco3UK - DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Are your nuts swollen ?
Has anybody had this type of problem here ?
    Any comments / suggestions welcomed.

    cheers

No problem with my nuts thanks for asking.

The salting of there roads might not help them.

Yep, my wheel nuts were swollen. I replaced the horrible Landrover ones with solid ones. Which I got from the US.

    My nuts aren't swollen,
but the stainless covers are quite sloppy, I do swap wheels often though.
Wonder why they just don't have solid nuts ?

    Cheers Ken

My nuts are not swollen but I wish they were - then the standard wheel brace might actually fit.

My stainless covers are quite sloppy as well, might be buying a set of good nuts from the states.

Dimensions drawing looks a bit off.

I looked at the eBay item and the lug nuts do look good.

The dimension sketch was I thought a bit inaccurate and also did not really resemble the product pictured , (the larger perimeter sloped rather than squarish and total length), however the lug nuts pictured look to be similar to the OEM. If the chrome does not rust too quickly, they are probably better than the OEM as the cap swelling can be a real nuisance when it comes to getting a wheel off.

Below is what I have for the OEM lug nuts.

Wheel Lug Nut part numbers for the D3 and LR3

Part number for VIN's up to 5A303208 is RRD500041, (the black ones, at a guess)

Part number for VIN's from 5A303209 is RRD500042, (the silver ones, I think?)

Above part number for the silver ones is superseded so now
New part number RRD500290 to 2008 for VIN's to 8A450459

New part number RRD500590 from 2008 VIN 8A450460 to and including all 2009

For part number RRD500290 (silver ones with cap and big washer)

    Thread: M14 x 1.5
    Total length: 56mm
    Seating type: Flat with washer
Head size: 22mm so 22mm socket when not swelled.
    Shank size 22.5mm
    Max OD: 33.5mm

I purchased the ones that I posted the link to. They have been on my vehicle for 8 months now, no corrosion is evident yet.
They are as pictured in the listing. I didn't check the dimensions compared to their drawing yet but could this weekend.
I'm very happy with them so far, they are a nice fit for a 22mm socket and I can use my Impact wrench without causing damage.

Product looked good; sketch looked not quite so good.

I would be interested in knowing the overall height of the chromed lug nuts verses the OEM. The lug wrench hex end might be a bit shorter and that would not matter as long as the wheel end was correct; myself I just think the sketch is wrong and the chromed lug nuts are near exact duplicates, but without the problems of the OEM.

It is nice to be able to use an impact socket - and the price is pretty darn good - all four wheels for about the price of a couple of OEM.

I suppose you have salt in the air, but very little on the actual road - over here, the roads turn white and so do the vehicles when it warms up in the winter - salt spray and the like.
