D3 "C" Service
Hi, I've just had the 5 year service performed on the V8D3.
It has come back with a slightly blowing exhaust which is strangely most audible over 80KPH. It is directly related to the loud pedal so I can't see how it can be anything else. I can't see/feel/hear where it is leaking, but the pipes are quite hidden at the engine end so I couldn't put my hand near the joints with it running.
The dealer will of course deny they did it and tell me I need to buy a whole new system.
They also left two bolts missing from the gearbox heat shield.
I would have noticed the noise if it was there before. And I would have expected them to comment on it if it came in with the problem.
Should they have touched the exhaust system - perhaps to get access to something else - in a C service? If they touched it I can easily claim they left it loose, damaged a gasket, etc.
Thanks, Steve

Unless they've changed one of the lambda sensors or a mounting rubber then there's no need for them to touch the exhaust at all, on any service of the V8 as far as I'm aware.
5 year service at home would be the 75,000 mile one, which involves a new set of spark plugs, so the expensive service if the plugs are actually changed. I elected not to do them as the car had only done 50 odd thousand at the time, but I knew the 75 wouldn't be far away given the mileage I did. The plugs are being done before it leaves the UK as it's now covered 72 thousand.

At the new house right now, just had Optus in to install my phone / broadband, plus start on the list of jobs I've been given by the wife. Change the locks, spray beasty killer round all the doors & windows, that sort of thing
Oh and try to work out how the hell the heating & a/c systems work, seeing as how we have no manuals for anything in the house !
Still a walk down to the beach soon with the dog for a lunchtime sarnie is in order I think. Make the most of this sunshine

I've been in ( mostly ) Queensland ; BNE to the tropics for 24 years
as of last Thursday . Never missed the UK weather , but it took
a long time for the retail sector to get upto equiv . It was really
Hick , for many years . You'll enjoy the much better healthcare
at the State level . Make sure those pull-out filters on the air-con
are clean ; often overlooked for a good blast of water .

That might explain why the heating system is flashing "FILT" at us on the main display....

Hi Neil, It's the major service. In the service manual there are A, B & C.
They are all crap services when I take them to the main dealer... MR are difficult to get to and I don't always get the time to make the trek.
Cheers, Steve
