    Advice for Newbie D3 owner

A friend of mine has recently splurged out on a very nice-looking 2nd hand 2005/6 Disco 3 with the 2.7 diesel. Traded in his Nissan turbo-D, I suspect due to servicing co$ts, - nothing to do with Pose Value or him working off-shore...

Question: - Should I warn him to watch out for anything in particular? EGR stuffing up, l oo s e bolts on big-ends / mains ? Fluctuating Veocitator falling off....

Or should I wait till he complains...then gently remind him that I Told Him So, - after I bought my Rangie.

    James in Perth.

He should do himself a big favour and blank off the EGRs - take a look on Disco3.UK for info.
Change his brake light bulbs for LEDs - get the auto flushed - the list goes on and on .... tell him to do lots of overtime to pay for all the goodies .....

    cheers

EGR - exhaust gas recirculation valves - only put on the engine to please the "greenies", can't be blanked off on post 2007 vehicles (drat) as they have "euro 4" compliant engines and it kicks up a fuss with the engine management systems, and YES the LEDs avoid the problem of a blown light bulb messing with your vehicles computers....'aint modern cars wonderful !!!!
Fortunately we have this forum (and many others) so we can learn about these problems and take avoiding action - such as with the "sealed for life" automatic gearbox !!!!
The D3/4 are wonderful vehicles - they just need a little tender loving care - and a few after purchase mods to keep 'em that way.

    cheers

Why not tell him about how good your 'old Paj' is and how he is a goose for buying any LR product.

    cheers,

If you have a few hours - jump onto Disco3.co.uk and put EGR into the search function and you will learn all about EGRs.
    cheers

Because we both know that the Paj is light truck, - Civilised maybe, but still rides and sounds like a truck. - Late '70's technology...
I just keep it because it has'nt died...

... Because he might be one of the Lucky Ones who gets a properly built one that never-ever breaks down

    He deserves it...
