    More lights questions

One day I'll have "The Knowledge" (no not the London Taxi drivers' version) and be able to help others, meanwhile...... The Signature lights, are they bright enough to be used as DRL's? I have seen on the UK LR site that LED DRL's can be optioned and seem to be fitted low in the front spoiler area below the fog lamps.

Has anyone looked in the fitting of these or similar?
Secondly I see a few people have the front and rear light guards, are they effective in preventing or reducing damage/scratches to the lenses or are they more a cosmetic item?

At dusk the signature LEDs can be seen reasonably well but not well enough in shadows when there's Aussie bright daylight about. Those LED DRLs are mounted very low which could sometimes be out of sight on an undulating road.
