Can anyone help me with suggestions for all-terrain tyres for my D3 - size is 255 60 R18? I can't seem to find anything other than the road tyres it came with and they don't stand up to rocky tracks very well - like you get commonly in outback Queensland and the NT. On a recent trip I blew the sidewall twice and could only get road tyre replacements in Brisbane.

And the new Cooper AT3 is a vast improvement over the old Cooper A/T so should be added to any tyre list that your looking at.
If you want to go off road then consider going one size up with a set of 265x60x18's.This size tyre is still legal, anything bigger in general is not.

The 265 / 60 R18 is rated as a "T" rating which is 190 kph.
The Standard tyre rating is 'V" which is 240 kph.
It passes the load rating for AU of 109 by 1!

Yes the AT3 has a 109 load rating which equates to a max weight of 1030 kilos per tyre, I would imagine that is a high enough rating for most applications.
Having said that I also purchased a set of STT's for serious off roading.

Because you may not like the answers after a claims knocked back

I'll ask the questions again, are there any decent serious A/T tyre with a V rating?
After these comments I just checked the speed ratings for GG AT2's and Pirelli Scorpions in the 255x60x18 size and they both have a H rating which is also rated below V.
And many A/T 265x60x18 tyres which is the commonly used larger A/T size because it is the largest legal size are also load rated lower (109, 110) than the often standard 255x60x18 size.
And Rich I checked the Cooper Zeon's that you use in 285x60x18 size and they have a speed rating of S which is lower then T
So what does this all mean?

I seem to recall, maybe in the FAQ section (yep just checked it is in there) a comment noting that legally "4wd" tryes only need to be rated N or above.
If that is the case then almost any tyre is suitable.
Note : I am only repeating what I recall reading somewhere and I am not sure of the authority or accuracy of these comments or the original comments. (my standard disclaimer)

I have Continental Cross Contact AT in the 255/60 R18 size, a reasonably aggressive AT tread that has served me well for my use which is predominately on road with a bit of off road thrown when I can. So far they have impressed me with their grip both on and off road, however I have some concerns about the sidewall strength.
They are out there you just have to find them, but as mentioned plenty of discussion in this forum about tyres.
