    Flutter on Start

    Hi All,

Is there any fix to the flutter on start of a TDV6? When it starts there's a Phhhht, Phhhht, Phhhht before it ticks over smoothly. (sorry, but thats the best attempt I could do with a keyboard! )
Mine is a 2007 D3, but I've heard the same from pretty much all TDV6's in D3's and RRS?

Thanks in advance for your comments/knowledge

Not heard of this before - my My07 RRS does not do it. Are you waiting until the glow plug light goes out before starting?

I'll check that next start - too many beers now to sit in the drivers seat! ...but to be honest have never noticed the glow plug light - aren't cars way too advanced to need that these days!?

However, I've heard at least 5 other cars (mixture of D3 & RRS) doing the same but don't know their build dates!? Someone did comment to me that it could be an update from LR to fix it!?

    How old is your battery?

Is the earth lead connection to the body ok?

I'm guessing it's still the original battery, but never had an issue with it starting, it's after it's started that I get the flutter.

    Presto,

I have certainly not noticed this as an issue. If your are talking about the couple of ignition coughs (for want of another word or description) prior to it kicking over and idling normally I do not think that is unusual for a diesel.

Regards the glow plug, it is the light shaped like a two loop coil that only comes of for a couple of seconds (can be longer if it is really cold) when you turn the key to position II i.e. just before ignition.

I believe it is still best to let this light go out before kicking it over, something I do 99% of times but on the odd occasion I have turned it all the way on it still start ok.

    Hope this helped.

Maybe try turning the air cond off, when you start it see if noise goes.

If you are talking about just after it starts, almost a rough idle for a second or two? It could well be the low pressure fuel pump located in the fuel tank. Had to replace the pump on Dad's 2005 model.

I'd go for a fuel problem.
My wife's old Delica would run really rough after start up until we found a tiny leak in the fuel filter.
Replaced fuel filter & the problem went away.

BTW the Delica is a diesel.
