    What diagnostic tool

Looking to get a diagnostic tool for my D3 and the wifes Freelander 1. From waht I have read the options appear to be Hawkeye or Faultmate. The Faultmate kit would be around $1500 + delivery. However, the Hawkeye works out at 400GBP (about $700AUD) plus delivery. Is the Faultmate that much better than the Hawkeye?
All I want to do is not get tied into garages to diagnose problems/reset fault codes.

    TIA

    Ivan

Faultmate can flash tune your D3 as well...

You can buy maps from BBS and tune your D3 in the driveway (Diesel only)

Most fault code readers on ebay will be a generic OBD11 reader. Will not read all L.R. codes

You can buy the Hawkeye here in Australia for $550 RRP.

Not as flash as a Faultmate but they do everything 99% of people would want from them and you can buy multiple software programs for many different LR models and use the same Hawkeye unit.

Many small LR workshops use Hawkeyes as their diagnostic tool rather then splashing out mega dollars on a Autologic unit.

    dont forget the important one...

    the one atop your shoulders.

The best diagnostic hardware with the latest and greatest software and data kits in the world is useless if the wetware is cactus.

I have a Faultmate for my D4. Whilst it is primarily to read and clear codes because I don't have a dealer or workshop nearby and wouldn't want to be paying to have codes read and cleared anyway. I've also changed a few configuration settings to tailor the vehicle and would have paid to have some of those changed, so have saved some of its extra costs. It has also been used to see suspension system information specifically for the development work I did, which may or may not be of use if a suspension fault occurs whilst in a remote area.

Needing to have a PC or laptop running Windows connected to do anything other than basic code reading and clearing (which is a little cumbersome without the laptop) means that away from home it is only a code reader/clearer, except on special trips when the laptop would be carried. Windows CE support is not available but would be convenient for me if it was.

I would like it to have the ability to just read and clear codes on any D3/D4/RRS but the licence cost is prohibitive.
