Hi, new to this site; have looked around but cant find any discussions on my dilemma. Am looking at buying a D4 SE 3.0 but cant get around that idea that I cant fit smaller than the r19 rims it comes with. Would/has anyone done serious off road work these 19inch rims?. If so what off road or A/t tyres are actually available??? for these rims. Have heard rumours re after market 18inch rims being produced for this vehicle but nothing more. Any guidance in this matter would be of great help.

We use the Goodyear MT/R on the D4s with 19" rims.

I've got 19" Scorpion ATRs on mine.......great all round balance. More rigid and as quiet and grippy on road as the OEM supplied Goodyears (wet or dry) and far, far better in sand and dirt.
I do have chips & scratches on my wheels, but a lot of those would have happened regardless of wheel size......I've also got branch and lantana scratches on the panels.......not sure the tyres made any difference there....LOL
Cheers,
Kev.

						Hi Willyb,
In the 19's you have 2 AT choices, namely the Pirelli Scoprion ATR (as per Celtoid above) and the General Grabber AT (not the older AT2) which l run. I have done 13000 kms on mine and so far very happy. Very quiet on road, perform well in wet and dry, and have coped with everything l have asked of them off road. They appear to be wearing well and at approximately $300 per tyre they are significantly cheaper than the Pirelli option. Like any AT tyre they are not an MT, so it depends on what you intend to do.
I considered purchasing the 18 inch rims from Gordon, but for what l do the 19's are satisfactory.
Regards Trif.
Willyb,
As mentioned have another search through this forum as there is plenty of discussion regarding the pros and cons of 19 in rims and tyres.
Additionally there are plenty of people on this forum who use their 3.0 D4 as intended and do "serious off road work" without any issues. Main concern with 19 in rubber is lack of availability in remote locations if that is what you mean by serious off road work.
Main A/T option already noted plus I think Continental do an AT Cross Contact (I run these in 18 in and they have been pretty good). There are some MTR options but they are limited.
MHO, depending on what you want to do in the D4 do not be put off by the tyre option as they are increasing and the new patterned General Grabber AT
is getting some very good wraps both on and off road.

I have friends with them who are very happy but I could not justify the price when compared to the RF10 hankook tyres. hankooks have so far been a positive experience. I got them for $280 F&B inc alignment
