Cracked Wheel Rim

That is a lot of money for an old fashioned tyre, yes it is tough but it's performance has been overtaken by newer designs.
The older MT and now the MT KM2 are better in the sand than the AT. The square shoulder on the AT digs in even when deflated.
Wet road performance is also questionable.

Have you priced recently Yokohama's from the tire shed or what ever it is called, last time I looked some months ago they were very cheap compared to here and they are according to most people a pretty good tyre.

Agree with you as far as overloading goes. It's take a fair bit of stuff to reach the rated load. As for the tyres, I am pretty biased toward BFG having had excellent service from two sets on my Pajero on and off road as well as towing a 2.2t van. Unless someone can recommend another tyre that is as good or better I'll probably stick with them.

I think tyre choice a matter of personal preference and first hand experience. If you have a bad run with a particular brand it puts you right off them no matter the reason.

I can't comment on the Yokohamas as the only set I had were the OEM Geolanders (HT) fitted to the Pajero when we bought it and like all OEM tyres only lasted 45,000km.

And as John Laws used to say "When you're on a good thing. Stick to it."

I considered getting the the 265x65x18's as well Mike but that would make the D3 unroadworthy if pulled over by the RTA because they are to far oversize stopped me. That and the fact if something went wrong with that size tyre on that my insurance company might walk away from any claim.

Just a thought to consider.

265x60x18's are fine though.

Are you sure? I've been told in the past by people who should know that it is not possible to make a steel rim with +41mm offset and reasonable load capacity. If someone has found a way it'd be good to know.

What is the offset of your rims? Dynamic steel rims used to be +30mm.

That doesn't work - Customs monitor delivery's to your address, and if 2 come from the same source in the same year, they combine them for tax purposes.

You may have to have some sent to your brother/sister/aunt .......:wasntme:

In the progressive, forward thinking state of WA, 265/65R18's are legal on a D4 - only 40mm oversize and we're allowed 50 :D

i also have had a fantastic run on BFG A/T's on the D2.
I am looking around for something for the D4,will probably go 17's.Has anyone got the Rugged terrains,they are not to be confused with the old rugged trails.

They are a little more road based than the KO A/T's,& probably suit a modern car such as a D4 better than the KO's.

But are they as robust,are the side walls as strong?The load rating is identicle in 245/70/17 size.

They ar both similarly priced here at around $350 each.

My other option is stay with the 18's,but there are no LT's in this size unless i go to much larger tyres such as 265/65/18,which is not what i wanna do.

Thanks Gordon. Equivalent size is the 265/70R17 and my speedo agrees with my GPS at all speeds. That's why I was looking for tyres in the 265/65R18 range to go the OEM rims. Because we will be vanning for quite some time they need to be at least LT construction with an off road capability. Muddies, in my opinion only, are too aggressive for towing large vans and, as well as wearing very quickly, add to fuel consumption.

As far as splitting the shipments to keep below the $1000 limit, I have a very cooperative neighbour. In a case like this, I pay for 1/2 of a shipment on my credit card with my home address. He pays for the other 1/2 on his credit card to his address and we sort out the balance before credit card payments are due. He fixes up old cars, so I often return the favour to him. Works very well and all above board.

Thank for this info i sell these rims at work have seen the stud holes like that before and sent them back but good to see the crack i will keep a eye out on the rims to see if any faults..
