The Safari Snorkel will fit with no dramas. It will also look a bit more fit for purpose than any custom made effort that I could make.
The reason I created the thread was to make sure that Safari hadn't tried fitting their snorkel to the 4L and discovered that it didn't work. I.e. not enough air flow etc.
I'm satisfied now to get a snorkel and fit it up.

The LR genuine RAI can be used as a snorkel. When the assembly is bought from LR it has a perforated elbow which is replaced on the air filter. If the elbow id not replaced, but the existing solid elbow is used, you have a snorkel.
Have confirmed this with Austral in Fortitude Valley. Parts approx $750 and can be self fitted.

When I phoned Austral I wwas quoted $1100 AUD for the LRAI supply only. I eventually got one from the UK cheaper (including delivery).

Do you have to drill or cut anywhere to fit the RAI? Also tamar4x4store in the UK do them for 332 GBP. Don't know how much shipping is though.
You have to drill the A pillar to fit it and I think you have to drill the wing. I paid $80 and had it fitted by OL when they fitted my Bullbar and winch. I figured it was not worth me screwing it up
Ivan
You have to drill one hole in the "A" pillar and two holes in the wing, and then fit "rivnuts" to hold the bolts, just measure twice and double check before you "drill" - wouldn't do the have the holes in the wrong place
It's a bit nerve-wracking to drill some holes in your vehicle - but just take your time and you'll be fine.
cheers
Update: I bought a Safari snorkel on Saturday and finished installing it yesterday.
No real issues to speak of but it is a big job if you're not already comfortable with drilling, angle grinding etc. Or if you got big hands. I've got hundreds of cuts from tightening up the nuts inside the guard.
Will post up a thread with pics soon.

Looking forward to the pics, djhampson.Whilst I'm no handy-man, I have mates that are. If you post up some good pics, and a bit of a blurb, I may just install one of these, too. Do you reckon it's watertight?
