    Does the compressor cope with deep water crossings?

    Hi all,

    As the question says really - how can the air suspension compressor cope with going under during deep water crossings. Doesn't it need to breath too, like the diffs and the engine, or does it also have a raised breather?

    Just curious really, although am planning some deeper stuff in the cape this year, so don't want to stuff it up.

    The air compressor will cope with it no problem.
    The air intake and exhaust is actually within the cabin space in the rear passenger guard. The compressor is not oil filled like a diff / transfer case or gearbox. Yes it gets hot but it will expand and contract accordingly with temperature changes, e.g. Being cooled by water.

    the air compressor draws its air from behind a panel near the fuel filler (on the inside of the car). compressor runs well enough to pump up tyres when coming off the beach( ive set up a hose to the bullbar with a quick connect, running from the air tank on the passangers side).

    A question, have you ever compared the costs of the on board compressor that is used for the air suspension to a aftermarket compressor like ARB sell for pumping up tyres?

    My point is the on board compressors aren't usually known for having a long life in the first place from just looking after the airsuspension, let alone for being used to pump up tyres.

    Plus for off road use if you also have a ARB like compressor and add a GOE EAS kit to your D3 and then you not only have a second compressor for tyres but an ability to get your airsuspension back to at least road height if you have a on board compressor failure or airline issue etc.

    I could think of few things worse then being stuck in the bush with my D3 sitting on its bump stops because of a compressor failure.

    spent the weekend up at gloucester/berrico, had ALOT of rain, we did 6x water crossings at 600-700mm deep and about a bazillion crossings at 200-300mm. compressor still going spose only time will tell
