I wonder if it is in the same place as the RRS supercharged V8 - below the engine mount?
Here's a pic I took last year of the engine no. of a crate engine. It would have been impossible to see once we fitted the engine.

						 TDV6 Engine Number Location
 TDV6 Engine Number Location
		Hi folks,
I am trying to get my 09 TDV6 SE registered in Tassie after bringing it over from Victoria. Had it inspected today, but the mechanic could not find the engine number.
I have found some pictures here and there on the web, but have had no real luck in finding the number from the rego papers.
I popped the engine cover off and could not see much past all the pipework etc. so I was not sure where to be looking. I couldn't line my engine up with the pictures I had seen on the web. They might have been from the USA version(?).
Does anyone know where the engine number is located on the block (or heads)?
Thanks.

See attached PDF - looks like you need to to pull half the engine bay apart or get an endoscope.

Isn't it on a plate on the passenger side rocker cover?
I had the same problem when I brought my '07 TDV6 down from NSW and had to get it registered in Vic, the Vicroads guy couldn't find the number - and I didn't know where it was - so I rang the dealer (where I'd just had a major service done) and they faxed over all the vehicles details plus told the Vicroads guy that it was virtually impossible to "see" the engine number unless he was a miniature acrobatic flea - so Vicroads gave up and accepted the dealers word as to the engine number and registered my vehicle.
There IS some sort of "plate" on the top of the engine but as it is JUST a loose plate they (Vicroads) wont accept it.....why the hell Landrover didn't just stamp the engine number in a nice easy to get at place is beyond me !
Good luck.

The 2 blokes who do the inspections at Frankston's VicRoads office wouldn't be able to see it, even with all that help. Watching them try and find the engine number on a H2 Hummer when we were in there registering our Spitfire was comical. One of them can't lean too far over because of the size of his gut and the other needed a tall booster stand to see over the side of the engine bay. Seeing him dangling over the engine with his legs sticking out the side of the car had the office in stitches....
