water in passenger side front footwell d4

Has anyone had this problem or the probable cause. I recently had the windscreen replaced. After a few days drove through heavy rain and didn't think anything was wrong until detected a musty smell. Put my hand on passenger mat and found it was soaked. I rang the people who replaced the screen and they pressure tested the screen immediately. No sign of leakage, he reckons it could be water going in via the plastic trim clip holes as they might not be properly sealed after removal. He had these holes sealed with silicon. I'm a bit concerned this really hasn't been resolved and find it strange that these mould holes lead directly to the inside of the vehicle, you would think that there would be channelling to the outside of the vehicle should water get in. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this?

    do you have a sunroof?

If so check the drains at each front corner, they may be blocked.

Might help to have a look at the similar problems in the P38 section. I haven't had the joy of seeing a D4 up close ...but LR may have used a similar design for pollen filters etc wrt the main plenum in front of the windscreen.

If so, the metal plate covering the pollen filter substructure can leak causing water to seep down through the side blower and onto the carpet...

We had this problem, ours turned out to be a manufacturing fault from the factory, the seam between the firewall and guard had a small hole in the join sealer, causing water to come into the footwell.

Land Rover were blaming our accessories, so we seached the net for others, there about 3 probable causes.

    Sunroof (as mentioned)

    Windscreen (as mentioned)

    Roof Rack Rails

AND this from Disco 3.UK forum

There hasn't been any reports that this can happen to a D4, but you may want to mention it when at the dealer.

Discovery 3/LR3 - Water Ingress via A-Pillar Exterior Trim or A-Pillar Trim Adrift

    No.LA501-007 31 April 2005 Discovery 3 / LR3 Vin range : 5A000259 Onwards

    Markets : All Section : 501-08

    Summary :
A customer may report a concern of the illumination of miscellaneous warning lamps and/or water in footwell.

Cause : Water ingress through the lower slot in the body A-pillar, where the A-pillar exterior trim lower location peg locates.
Action : Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin.

    Land Rover wrote:

    Service Procedure
NOTE : Irrespective of which side of the vehicle the water ingress/trim adrift condition is found, to ensure a right first time repair the procedure should be applied to both sides. The repair kit includes the necessary parts to perform the procedure on both sides.

1 . Release the seven retaining clips and remove the A-pillar molding.

2 . Remove and discard the foam washer from the lower peg.

3 . CAUTION : Ensure any remaining protrusions will not contact the body A-pillar.

Cut away the lower location peg from the A-pillar trim.

4 . NOTE : Ensure the area where the patch is to be applied is clean and dry.

NOTE : Ensure the patch is evenly secured and fully adhered to the body.

Secure the patch supplied in the repair kit to the body, covering the lower slot in body A-pillar.

5 . Remove and discard the trim retaining clips.
6 . Attach a new clip (IPN500050) from the repair kit to the lower A-pillar exterior trim bracket.

7 . Secure the four securing clips (DZM000070) from the repair kit to the remaining A-pillar exterior trim brackets.

8 . CAUTION : Care must be taken not to cause damage to the clips when installing the exterior trim.

NOTE : Ensure that the trim is secure.

Install the A-pillar exterior trim to the body.
9 . Repeat the procedure for the opposite side of the vehicle.

    Hope this helps,

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

Also if you have removed the roof racks, and you don't have roof rails, make sure there are bolts/plugs in the mounting holes in the roof.... As they do go through to the cabin...

    Cheers,

Yes - I have a D3 that has the same problem - thought that at water bottle had spilled in the front passenger footwell. With all this rain we are having in melbourne will have to have a look tomorrow morning as the dripping appears to come from above or near the glovebox area..but hard to tell.

No sunroof, but have extended factory bars and windscreen has been replaced.

    Found problem

Thanks for the feedback, found water in foot well again after windscreen place had checked screen for leaks, there were none. Took it back today as there was a wet trail thanks to all this rain. They stripped all moulding away and found the pollen filter and air intake soaked. The intake is right under the windscreen mould and it protrudes just enough to receive any water that flows past the mould. He rang Landrover for info and was told that they had been attaching a blank sheet over the protruding vent to prevent water entering. Funny that when I rang service dept earlier they said they had no issues with water entry at all. What a crock. Thought I would share this in case anyone else has the problem.

Thread resurrection. Just troubleshooted a wet passenger footwell. Found worn clips on the scuttle causing the scuttle to lift and thanks to awful LR design, water entering the blower motor through the vent which as mentioned protrudes to catch any water running down the windshield. I made the requisite deflector to resolve and will also get some new scuttle clips to help as well. Tested and no more water coming in. Seems the water finds its way out of the blower motor somehow - couldn’t find where but it was definitely from it. To confirm, drop glovebox, remove pollen filter and watch for water dripping down when a helper floods the windscreen on the passenger side.

I had expected the a-pillar having recently messed with it to run spotlight wiring down it but it was fine.

D4 passenger footwell soaked .... have a sunroof

    Hi

My 2014 D4 HSE has had a musty smell for the last week or so. I just had a look then when my passenger said that the side of their seat was wet, and the carpet in the front passenger footwell is soaked with water. Oddly, not the firewall carpet, so the water must be running directly into the carpet from somewhere but at the floorpan level. Obviously not dripping from around the glove box because it'd've been caught by the rubber mats that I have on top of the carpet. And we haven't had much rain for the last week either.

The car has the triple sunroofs - where are the drain holes to check for blockage? Do I need to open the sunroof to access it?
