What does the standard tft screen display? is it just the radio controls? I guess it doesn't have the 4x4 info (which i suppose is a bit of a gimmick anyway?)
I do not think it would work with the Premium ICE package as it integrates into the stereo rather than just being an add on. Does the premium ICE package come with a colour screen?

The standard tft screen just shows the radio and the telephone and enables you to set the cars time. Takes up a lot of room and does very little. My $20,000 airport car has a screen that does more...

There seem to be a few options for fitting nav to the low line stereo. Either the way I went (Chinese fully integrated), or move the factory screen to the glove box or somewhere else and fit a touch screen and then have inputs into that touch screen or fit a touch screen and an adapter to change the non touch screen display from whatever land rover use to a PAL signal and display this on the new screen (still need to relocate the non touch screen as it has all the control electronics integrated). Obviously there are also lots of other ways to achieve the same thing like just having an ipad on a mount but these were the options I found to have it look factory.

As for the stereos that have the colour screen fitted it seems to be possible and relatively easy (couple of hundred Dollars from the UK) to add a different video display (reverse camera or DVD etc) by installing a GVIF interface which basically plugs into the screen and converts a PAL or NTSC signal (standard video) to a GVIF signal (propitiatory video signal used by the display) and displays this on the screen. You then use the AUX audio selection for Audio. As far as I understand this doesn't actually integrate with the Land Rover system it simply enables you to switch between the Land Rover display and what you would like displayed with an IR remote (it does this automatically for reverse CAM). Looking at the link you posted this seems to be a different option than the GVIF interface. The only touch screens I have used use USB so I'm sure it would be possible to use these new adapters to display nav that you can control. Maybe through a carpc setup. Sounds like a fun project!!

Good idea finding all this out before you buy the car... Me... well I just bought one second hand and then spent hours and hours (days probably) figuring out how I could achieve what I wanted.

    Hi Brett,

We did get your email Thank you.

But unfortunately we have not seen a car yet that we can test our products on. We have a product that will hopefully give navigation and reverse camera input to the screen, but we are just waiting for a car that we can test on.

    Regards

Anyone want to be a crash test dummy for this ? They are in QLD so a little too far for me to drive over.

Just an update on my new proposed solution to this..

I have been testing memory maps on my pc and android phone. I plot my routes at home and then copy them to the phone. Works great.
So now will get a tablet for the car for 4wd maps, and just keep in the incar nav for the streets. Being able to use pinch to zoom on a tablet to go from hema to topo maps is way better than using 4wd maps on an oem system.

Then to get the speed cameras I am just running camsam app on the phone. This is perfect as I have the same issue in my other car.

Must have the colour screen on 2012 model....I have seen a 2011 model with the screen being much smaller and did not have the 4x4 button, and colour screen, so must have been an upgrade for cars built after July 2011.
