Mudflaps or rock tamers

Pat, don't waste your money.
The Land Rover flaps, and those from E-Bay, are not long enough to stop anything, and I understand, that they will damage if rock climbing, or crawling through hardened mud ruts, as they are quite rigid.
Follow the lead from Craig of DISCO4SE, and make up flaps using the Plastic/Rubber units available from 'Supercheap'.
I used Craig's template, but enlarged it somewhat, using 6mm, reinforced rubber from 'Clark's Rubber', 300mm wide, at $13/Mtr approx.
I tried to imagine what height I would need above the ground, when using the suspension height rods, and travelling faster on gravel, at 'Off Road' height.
Left long, the flaps are easily cut, after you have experimented a bit.
I suffered stone damage to my van on first outing with LR flaps, and worse still, my rear glass has 'copped' a few dings, and that despite having a large sunshade cloth stoneguard that 'Bushtracker' Vans fit as standard.

I put a set of these on my D4 and they went on great and very easy to install, haven't had a problem with them. Cheap enough to replace if you rip one off.

I also have a full length piece of rubber hanging down at the rear do the draw bar.....this protects very well.
The stone stomper protects the front of the camper.

Just a quick update, the dealer quote for 'fitted' LR mudflaps to my D4 was $488.00. Obviously that contains a little (or a lot of) labour. I expect to pay more for genuine accessories but that difference surprised me a bit. And, I must admit I was so quick to say don't worry about it that I forgot to ask the part only price!

I will definitely be trying the other alternatives suggested.

Pat, LR Australia price for front, and rear, flaps is $280. They are a 5 Min; job to fit, so rip off for labour. 90Quid from Duckworth, UK. I did not pay anything for postage as they came in a box with my Safari Snorkle and other 'Goodies'.

Brendan, I am halfway through my Mud flap job. Just taken some pictures, and when I work out how to post them, will do so.

I have had a look at the rock stompers and they look like quite a good product. I think on the discovery I may still require a combination of both the Rock stompers and some form of mudflaps (I like the idea of custom made as I reckon as everyone else has eluded the plastic genuine ones while they look good are useless for off roading.)

Maybe I go to a different Landrover dealer. Full set cost me $125 and I fitted them myself in less than half an hour - only tool required is a stumpy phillips head screwdriver.

Wow. I got trade price at $125 for front and $135 for rear. I was going to import from uk. Have you got a receipt or some proof so I can get LR in melb to match. How does plastic cost so much?

not genuine, but cheap to replace if you damage them.
eBay has a huge number of them using "discovery 4 mudflaps" as the search.
Might grab a spare set. They are much more flexible it seems.
