Thread: Mudflaps or rock tamers

Check out stonestomper......I personally think this is the best solution. Works for me.

I agree some form of mudflaps are a must especially when driving on gravel roads. I did about 2000kms on gravel towing on a recent trip without mud flaps. When t was wet i sprayd a huge amount of mud up and over the soft floor trailer so much so that i would not have been able to open it without a wash. Then there is the stone damage. The cars paint is well protected with the unpainted lastic trims that run all around the lower section of the car but i discovered that this plastic is now a bit rough as a result of the stones.

My Solution so far which I have only limited testing of is some home made mud flaps front and rear from a hard plastic, I believe it is the same stuff they use in rally cars. I made then as large as I dared on the rear and a bit more sensible for the fronts. So far they have survived on some hairy tracks, I will try and post some photos.

I have Rock tammers and I am not impressed at all. Even with them fitted and at the recommended height my van has stone dint's on the front of it. These dint's are inline with the wheels.

Mowog do you also have some mudflaps installed as well or just the rock tammers installed on the rear of the vehicle. Do you need both installed to achieve good protection?

Paulgoz can you also put up some close up photos on how you mounted your custom mudflaps to the vehicle and screw locations.

I have the basic Land Rover mud flaps. I have been thinking about adding extra rubber to these.

Damn so the config of having both is useless. Thanks for saving me that money Mowog and tryling it myself.

Sorry this is a little off topic as I do not need any major rock protection at this point.

I would like some form of mud flap, I was wondering whether anybody has any experience with these ones available on ebay.

Agree with stonestomper but if rock crawling is onthe cards most options will cop a hiding.

The sand blasting by rocks on the water tank right at the back under my trailer has punctured it in several spots and the outside front edge of the trailers paint for about 2mm on both sides is back to bare metal even with stonestomper.
