    Hi Alan,

Do you have a second battery system. My traxide kit with an Optima D34 works a treat. The winch coming off the main cranking battery shouldn't be an issue as the engine should be running.

    Regards Trif.

Get yourself a new cranking battery - they really are a VERY important item in vehicles such as the D3/4.
And "ditto" for the comments about a "traxide" dual battery system, fit that and you'll be a happy camper

Do a search. You will find a common theme. If you have a low main battery, it will cause issues with the electronics. There is lot a lot of choice to replace the std battery. Varta make the OE battery. I have a Federal, but it is only marginally greater capacity. That is your first step. As already advised, fix your main, and then look at a dual battery system and a second battery, like an Optima or Odyssey. The D3 can fit the second battery under the cover, rear drivers side engine bay, or you can buy a tray and fit in front of the main on the lh front.
Check out the Traxide site. Tim has good flow charts and instructions on his systems.

Plenty of info available on this site.

Don't go rushing into now batteries, etc... just yet as you might have a problem elsewhere!!

When you lock these cars up, they are supposed to go into a sort of 'hibernate' mode. However, if one of the systems isn't quite right, it can prevent it and cause excess battery drain.

e.g. The boot switch on my RRS was corroded, this kept the circuit open to the ECU and stopped it from entering this 'hibernate' mode. The upshot was that my brand new battery was completely flat within a few days!

    Get it checked out...

Get the highest capacity battery you can get in the space, lead/calcium.
An as Camel Landy says look into other possible issues.

Caterpillar batteries are tough, a very good price and have a big range of prices and styles.
